Thank you sir. <beer> That would be a 329 out of Completes mother. 82 lb bw. Polled. He thinks he is a bull already.

Watch him, he might just be! (lol)  I like the 035 cow myself. She looks moderate yet still has some length. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks nate and chandler. <beer> Guess I should say whats what. 029, 034 and 035 are the same pair. A durham red cow and her 329 heifer calf. 037 038 and 039 are all the 329 Clementine bull calf. 042 is RS DV 329 and to the left of him is a straight bred Shoshone bull that just came out of the Oklahoma drought. Id say he is a 3 frame at the moment. More from lack of grass then anything else. he has started to fill out since hes been here. I agree nate, they sure look good out in the pasture together. <rock>

Thank you shortdawg. The cows mama was my best red angus cow by a long shot. This would be my cover girl for what shorthorns on angus red or black can do. The calf is a keeper and she will be bred to Captain Obvious next year.

They all look great mate. Love that red cow.
Pity you are not feeding them very well and the fact you have a red bull with those good black cows.  (lol)

Thank you mate :) They are just getting by on grass this year ;). Dont worry tho. Those black cows are mostly bred to the black bull for next spring. Now next year maybe more crosses. But to make good F1's, one must first make the parent stock.

just think brock... if I had my way... you'd have some species diversity in the background of those pics....

nice set of RW cattle...

btw-- I can see a bull gaining flesh and poundage... but unless he's a young calf.. how's he going to gain frame score?

A stunted animal can gain frame size if it is not a mature animal when introduced to higher quality forage.

Really?? Are you sure??  Do you suspect that main point of the question involved the bolded words above, of which refered to something other than something mature??

When does an animals growth curve end? when he is 10 months 18 months 24 months?  What are the controls that affect growth or lack there of?  You seem to have all the answers let me know instead of sarcasm why not share your knowledge or lack there of...

I think it greatly depends on several things...  Genetics, mostly and almost solely... environment sure some, but mostly genetics...

If the genes don't line up, you'll never get anything big enough, or small enough...

The smaller it is once mature, the quicker it gets there...

Why don't you shed some light with you extensive collegiant experience regarding genetics... (pop)

"For cattle developed under a consistent and adequate plane of nutrition for normal growth, a calculated frame score should be similar regardless of when the animal was measured. Theoretically an animal should have the same frame score throughout its life. Inconsistent environmental factors and management can alter skeletal growth rate, which may result in cattle developing slightly faster or slower than anticipated. As a result animals may increase or decrease a frame score over time depending on rate of growth."
