Take that PETA

So proud of my 15 year old daughter.  She started her FFA speech yesterday, and is doing it over how misinformed people think show cattle are abused.  This was totally her idea.  (thumbsup) (thumbsup)  It's amazing how stupid, well educated people can be.  I have a lady (who has a doctorate in Phych.) who will hardly even speak to me.  She is a college professor and was using her classroom as a podium to teach them to boycott Monsanto and their products/byproducts.  We farm and do a huge business with Monsanto.  I told her, she was entitled to her opinion, but I ddn't appreaciate my tax dollars paying for her to spead misinformed stupidity.  Oh, she's also a vegetarian, and I pointed out that I've seen her wear leather shoes.

I hope she still encourages her students to boycott Monsanto. A bunch of crooks. All we need is a corporation taking control of the world’s food supply  :-\

Being vegetarian means a person doesn't eat meat. It has nothing to do with whether or not they wear leather or use any other by products. There are more extreme groups--like vegan, for example--who adopt more strict practices regarding use of animal products.

BTW not that i'm trying to take up for vegetarians, but being vegetarian or even vegan doesn't necessarily lump somebody into the same group as PETA or HSUS. People may be a member of two or more of those groups, but they're not all the same, and I don't think it's fair to put them all in the same category. If we can hope to be understood as producers, then we need to understand the groups that are a threat to our livelihood and respect the differences between those groups and their respective agenda. People have different reasons for making the choices they make, and I don't consider all vegetarians a threat to my ability to produce beef any more than I consider a hog producer or a sheep producer a threat. Are they a part of our target demographic?...maybe not. But are they a right-wing extremist with no regard for our way of life or our right to be a steward of the land and earn a living doing what we do?...I don't think they automatically fit that category just because they make a choice not to eat meat.
