A Trillion is a number that is easy to say, but kinda hard to comprehend. I googled 1 trillion and came up with these examples of what a trillion represents...

If you stacked $1000 bills on a pile to make a trillion dollars, the pile would be 95 miles high. ( unfortunately, I don't think they even make $1000 bills anymore)

Another example....

If you spent $1000 a day, you would spend $365,000 in a normal year. You would spend $36,525,000 in a century ( counting 25 leap years in a century). It would take over 28 century's to reach a Billion. To reach a trillion it would take over 2.8 million years.

This makes a guy stop and think as our governments talk about billions and even trillions as if they were normal amounts. Like anything, it may be easy to spend, but it is a little harder to pay back!

Rediculous isn't it?  The only way to remedy this is to tax, tax, and tax some more.  Inflation is my next big worry.  Glad I just got my mortgage locked in at a good rate!  This is without the proposed health care plan as well.

don't worry.  inflation is being factored in to the debt so it can be paid back with cheaper dollars.  inflation won't matter because only enough votes to keep this thought process in place will be given subsidies, kick backs, you name it, and yes, they are BOTH democrats and republicans that are doing this with equal zeal.

Amen, to that, AJ.  I feel for our kids.  Haven't yet figured out how they are going to make it.  Do you think all parents and grandparents have felt the same over the years?  I know each generation has had its tough times (World War's, Stock Market crashes, Great Depression, etc.), but I worry about them.

Someone should be in jail for the debt they have attached to this country!  One thing about it, there will never be another Pearl Harbor, this country has been purchased or put in the debt of so many foreign powers that there isn't a big fear of them destroying an asset.

I've been on Capitol Hill all day talking with Congressmen and Senators and most of them don't know how many zeros are in a million--much less a trillion.    A conservative Congressman that I have a lot of respect for, told me that many of the liberals in favor of Cap & Trade, the stimulus package, and all the new taxes they're talking about on health care don't seem to have any wish to do anything but follow the president and their "agenda".  He said "it seems as if the only God they worship is their own agenda"  and "they can't seem to understand that the laws they put in place today will never be withdrawn but only accelerate in their cost to the American taxpayers"!  Unfortunately, voices like his are being drowned out by the tidal wave of "Spend, Spend, Spend" and otherwise intelligent Representatives and Senators are being drawn along because they don't want to face reprisals down the road!!

Its a mystery to me, when you meet face to face with these folks, that otherwise seemingly sane people can be so convinced about their "solutions" that in reality are just larger, more complicated, more expensive  problems!!  One interesting estimate I heard today was that 200,000 bureaucratic jobs will be created by the "Stimulus package"---they won't create any more wealth for anyone, just administer the payouts and how they are used.    What a waste!!!

Every government needs a basic number of bureaucrats to make the programs that are initiated work, but I am convinced that most countries in the Western world have added bureaucrats until it it has almost become a malignant cancer on their society. The US, Great Britain, and Canada, are all guilty of this, and it is a major concern to me.

I have been involved in several organizations for many years, that have considerable involvement with bureaucrats. I am constantly amazed how little some of these people actually do in regards to actual work, and yet they feel they are a valuable asset to the world.I heard of one situation in our government, where a department was wound down and all its employees were moved to other jobs. One guy never got moved so he continued to go to his office for two years, and continued to collect his pay check. Nobody noticed, probably because he wasn't doing much less than anyone else.

After a new government was elected here a few years ago, there was a major house cleaning of bureaucrats and over 800 were cut from Agriculture alone. Some people thought that this was a devastating move, but an leader of a farm group put it in prospective to me. He asked me to name one person, in the government bureaucracy, that would have a negative effect on my farming operation, if they lost their job tomorrow. I thought of some I would miss on a personal level, but I could not think of any one who would affect my operation if he was gone. What is really sad, is that this government cut 800, but within a few years, it had the numbers back to the former level again.

Yes they are jobs and you need jobs for a healthy economy, but there is a magical line somewhere, where too many bureaucrats just eat a huge hole in society.

i think they are  getting ready to "round up the ole posse"....bush/cheny/libby ( cant wait for his booK) rove...gonzalez.ect...they .might just build bush a prison insead of a library....as your ponderin  the next generations future..take a look at ours....every working man and woman who got sucked into the 401k/ stock option retirement  sceme and " pay it forward" college education " investments" got raped....5 yrs ago if yoiu wree planning to reitre this year....youi've got alot ground to make up....wars are expensive...especially ones that last a half a generation...hows come no one worries about how our  kids are going to pay to that??....health care will pale in comparriosn to the cost of wars in three countries and rebuilding the middle east over the next 50 yrs.....especially if its all for nil....jbarl

nope....just the ones found guilty....as far as the constituion getting in the way. (lol)... ..isnt that one of the criminal charges to come against bush/cheny and " the boys"??.......they seem to have maybe compromised the constituion a bit as well....cheny and rumsfeld will be dead and buried before the  bush prison is built, but im sure theres going to be plenty of room for all the politicians that get caught up in this.  maybe send em' to gitmo??

Guilty of what? protecting our country & getting info( by whatever means they have to) out of terrorist that would kill you , your wife & your kids because you are "infidels". I think if anything they should make Gitmo bigger & not for Bush &  his people. I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said "Liberals, the only people that can turn terrorists into victims". It would be funny if it wasn't the truth. I don't understand how Bush can send us to Iraq & it's a bad thing, but yet Osama I mean Obama is increasing our presence in Afghanistan & you sure don't hear the biased media complaining about that.
