On good americans which typically are poorer haired it is much easier for the average person looking at the cattle. Not quite as necessary now with how fat and hairy most the people selling calves today have them. I am not a fan on most of the calves but a good one with a good quarter job looks pretty sweet it also gives you a lot more realistic look at the top. They use to do it that way in the old days and I think some people just continued doing it.
