Have a two-part question.  First, what do most of you go by to breed your yearling heifers?  Is it weight, height, age or a combination?  Any guidelines I need to be following.  Second, once I do breed this heifer, I was wondering what to use.  She is a late May heifer out of an EXT son and a commercial cow.  The one thing I would like to change on her is that she is pretty fine-boned.  Any suggestions on what to use would be great.  Can be registered bulls or crossbred, doesn't matter to me.

When we are going to breed our heifers we look at trying to have them calf about the time they are just about 2 years of age but with that said we have had some that that grew very well and they had a calf a month or so before they were two,or if one didn't look just big enough we might wait and let her calf at two and half or almost three this is what my father in law has always used and he will not bred a heifer to anything but angus bull but this last year we had a heifer that got bred to out(shorthorn herd bull) a  centurion 18 son and she had it on her own. 89lbs.
