Goat Newbie
« on: June 16, 2014, 09:08:10 PM »
Well I've been showing goats for a while but its just been for our small school district show, but I've been making sale, and I show steers. But I've been thinking lately I want to get a good goat for my county show which is in the beginning  of October, so if I don't make sale at county I'll probably take him to San Antonio. So my question is when should I buy the goat? Also what is a price range on a good goat? Whos a good breeder in Texas?

Price ranges all the way from a couple hundred into several thousands depending on where and when you buy your goat. You could get a decently competitive wether for around the $1,000 range. There are several good breeders in Texas:

Blue Team Wethers
7t7 Livestock
Fleming Livestock
Gallagher Show Goats
Helms Show Goats
La Copa Ranch
Mock Livestock

Just to name a few. You have to buy your goat based on which shows you want to show at and what the regulations are on their age limits.
