Ill admit I havent looked at the classifieds in at least a year but I did buy a bull off of them in 2015. The seller was in Wisconsin and I was in Alberta. We found the trucking through Steerplanet too, it all worked out great.

Super good looking heifer Larissa. Congratulations. How is she bred?
Thank you! Shes sired by Haroldsons Delta ET 69A and out of a Boyd Masterpiece cow. Weve had two pretty good full sib brothers to her so we were really hoping to get a heifer this year.

Tie her low in a nice place with hay for 6 or 8 hours, then try to lead her to water and back. If she wont go feed her and leave her there overnight and try again in the morning. Keep trying until she leads there and back, shell give in.

I dont say this about any of them but this one has been special since day one. At her first show she won the all breeds heifer calf jackpot and was Reserve Hereford Female. Her next show is Agribition and then she sells at the Wascana Cattle Company Complete Herd Dispersal on December 21. WCC 100B Jessica 9100G

Sounds like youre doing everything right. My first guess from that description would be that the cow might have hardware. Could you or your vet give her a magnet?

Full disclosure: I raise Polled Herefords.
In most commercial and purebred herds that use horned bulls the first thing they do at birth is dehorn the calf- why not do that naturally and have one less job to do? As long as you like the homo polled bull its money well spent as far as Im concerned.

I cant answer your question but I can tell from your posts that youre young and enthusiastic which is great. I think it would be beneficial for you to try find a mentor to answer some of your questions and provide advice as you need it. If you share your location maybe someone on here could hook you up with a more experienced breeder in your area.

Assuming hes quiet and tie broke but just stubborn: Tie him low in a nice spot with hay. After five or six hours try lead him to water. If he wont go try again in a few hours. If he still wont go leave him tied (in a nice spot where he can lay down) overnight and then try again in the morning. Keep trying every few hours until he leads. It wont take long, hell figure it out.

The calf needs to stay on the cow to keep her milking. Feed them separately so the cow doesnt eat all the feed and leave the calf with none. Practice working with them both together and apart so they learn to stay content even when they arent beside each other. Good luck, pairs are impressive but are a LOT of work and take a HUGE amount of feed to be competitive.

Quite a few people in our area started using mineral with garlic in it last summer and from what Ive heard they seemed happy. Were hoping the company we use will add it to their tubs so we can try it out. Last year the flies were unbelievably bad.

I try not to get excited about baby calves but this one might be fun to watch. These pictures were taken 12 days apart- at 10 hours old and today. JDH 4X Ultimate 263Z 94B X MBF 121C Charlotte 321E.
