The Big Show / Re: Cow rejecting calf

I have also used Dried Blood and sprinkled it on the calf.  Momma loves the smell and will lick it right away.  You can buy it at your local Farm Store or Plant Store.  It is used when starting new flowers.  Works just as good as the commercial stuff. :)

Our State Farm Insurance has a rider policy to cover semen tanks and contents.  Premium is based on $$ in tank.  Worth being able to sleep at night!

Some heifers get very sloopy vulvas and very tight/full udders several weeks in advance.  We have had first calf heifers with very full udders all the way up the back that I put in the barn thinking she was close, only to go full term (within 5 days of due date).  OR...you could be the proud parent of twins soon.  Good luck!

Same thing happened to me when I tuned in to watch Embryos On The Snow.  :(I had registered a couple days in advance and received my bidder # via email, but when I tried to watch it, the screen said that I needed to re-up my subscription (either $20 for a month or $50 for the year)  I guess my subscription ran out.  I don't think I will hand them any money.  I will make my bids over the phone or not at all.  They say it is because of the amount of kids tuning in and the bandwidth needed (all that costs money) and then the breeder or association putting on the sale doesn't have to pay the video feed fee.  Well, Cattle In Motion charges $1.00 for a lifetime and does a fine job, so they have my business.  Plus, they are broadcasting the National Western Stock Show's Livestock shows and supplying show orders.  Great service!!  You have my vote CATTLE IN MOTION!!!
BTW:  I am not an employee of CIM only a satisfied customer.

The Big Show / Re: SAV Iron Mountain

Another Angus breeder recommended using him to me.  They didn't say anything bad about the disposition of their calves (and I would think they would have mentioned it if they had run into problems).  They said that the Iron Mountain calves were very stylish and maintained some frame.
SD-- where have you seen these "hot" calves at?  So you wouldn't recommend that I try him on any of my cows?  EXAR Pit Boss and his son, R&C Pit Boss 8500 sure gives us docile calves.  Put halters on our calves yesterday for the first time, and today I could pull on their lead ropes and they would come along without too much fight.  Halter breaking will be so nice this year. (or maybe it's the weather!!!) (clapping) ;D ;D

We are located in Eastern Iowa, between Dubuque & Cedar Rapids, and have several nice, competitive Angus heifers for sale.  They are priced from $1500 and up.  A Feb. Heifer that we raised and showed was just named Reserve Champion Heifer Calf at the Iowa State Fair.  319-465-5058 for prices and breeding.  PS...will also have some nice steers.  Good luck looking for your first heifer, and I agree, join your state & local Junior Angus Associations.  You will connect with breeders in your area and become involved in a great breed.
