Winning Champion pen in Denver didn't hurt them any this year.
What did the Kodiak semen end up going for? I heard earlier in the week that there was already 1 bid in at $150-$200/straw to take all 100 straws. I would have liked to have gotten 5 straws for flushing a few Gelbvieh cows with.

How far Midwest? I've got a bull out at Hawkeye right now that I'm going to have to get home at some point.

What did you guys think of HF Tiger from Hamilton Farms? I saw him at Agribition in November and then again at NWSS. I thought he was probably one of the best Angus bulls I've seen in a long time, for my needs.

Here's the one thing I'm keeping in the back of my head - if the other party drops out of the partnership, it'll be just me, so I almost need something generic enough so it's not directly tied to either name.

what about the gelbvieh bull floto?
did he ever make it to the states?
The Floto bull did have quite a bit of semen imported into the US, in fact he was one of the bulls that was used quite when the first Gelbvieh semen was really catching on and being imported. Look through a few generations of the top Gelbvieh cows and you're nearly guaranteed to find some Floto in there somewhere. He was a different style from the other herd builders that were imported at that time, which is one of the reasons he's remained so popular.

Would love to join in but was already there and back. We were supposed to be there with cattle from the 6th to the 12th, but the weather forced us to leave cattle home and fly in on the 8th.

Bought into a bull futurity while down in Denver this year and need to come up with a name for the partnership. 1 important thing to consider - the name we choose will be the name we are stuck with. We can't add people to the membership, but we can always have people drop out. So my partner could drop out and I would be the one left with the membership. Want something that is creative, but won't be confused for a ranch name - so if someone sees a bull entered by "XXXX Genetics", I don't want them wandering the barn looking for that farm.
Ranch names are Prairie Hills Gelbvieh and Golden Buckle Gelbvieh. Both are from North Dakota Both raise Purebred Gelbvieh.
Ideas so far: The Prairie Partnership Golden Prairie Partnership The Guppy Gang Dakota Connection Dakota Genetics Golden Prairie Dakota Seedstock Dakota Prairie Dakota Duo NoDaks Northern Edge
Anyone have somethign else that might work?

You can check to see if there are any rooms left in the Gelbvieh block. I believe they had overflow rooms set aside at the Doubletree (our headquarters is the Red Lion). Reservations ar esupposed to be made by Dec 10th, which is today, so you should be able to get in....

This was my first time going to Agribition - wish I had known there were so many SP's up there! The Angus barn was pretty salty all the way through. I made it through the Shorthorn barn, but didn't get a chance to talk to anyone. We'll be pulling cattle up there next year, so I need to make some friends in case I need help fitting

You could pay the $20 to park your trailer over at Coors Field and tie to that....about as close as you're going to get to 'free' down there.

Thanks for the comments. In regards to traits he excels at: he is a red bull who is an outcross to all red genetics that are currently being used. The Gelbvieh breed ran into a situation a few years back where a couple of bulls were used VERY heavily (think Sunny or Trump in the Shorties). He's probably the thickest made calf I've ever seen, nearly perfect EPD's, etc etc. Been told by more then one person that he's the best calf they've seen out in a while.
We don't do any AI at our place. Our pasture arrangement doesn't allow it, so natural breeding is preferable. I'd also like to mention that this isn't my first time down the road either. We've been in the breed since 1983 and have had plenty of bulls purchased over the $10k amount. I've also been burnt on a few deals where multiple owners are involved with semen interest, etc. Just looking for a few ideas on how others have played the game.

Hey Folks, We've got a smoking calf we're planning on taking to National Western this year - he's a purebred Gelbvieh, so hopefully everyone sticks with me here I know what it's going to cost me to find a herd bull of his same caliber, so I'm thinking of keeping back natural breeding rights on him and just marketing semen packages. Has anyone had any experience in this? I'm sure Justintime has been down this road. I'd like to hear some of your experiences though and recommendations for things to do and not to do. My thought is to begin marketing him now through flyers, website, video, etc. Also market him once we get down to Denver. Looking at selling 500 straws total - 10 packs of 50, or 20 packs of 25, or some combo in between. There is also the possibility of doing the same thing in Canada next year and marketing another 500 straws of Canadian approved semen.

JIT - I can't find anything showing the import requirements to bring Canadian livestock semen into the US. I can find requirements related to equine and canine, but nothing further. Do you have a reference on your side showing requirements for export to the US from Canada?
I only ask because the guy I'm workign with said that taking it back into the US shouldn't be an issue, we just can't bring any semen from the US into Canada.....Canada into US isn't supposed to be a problem.

I'm looking for a small semen tank to use to deliver a few straws to a show. We'd only be putting about 30-50 straws in the tank. If anyone has a recommendation of a good tank, or has one they would be willing to sell, please let me know.
Thanks
