Ya, that was me, we weren't really looking to buy a heifer, but if she is as good as she looks in that picture someone got one heck of a deal.  I would have spent that on her in a heartbeat, I was waiting for the bidding to take off and it just never did.

Really good sale, congratulations to the DeRouchey family.
For anyone that was at the sale, what happened on lot 169, I loved her picture!.  I wasn't paying attention and really thought she was way out of my price range and she ended up selling way under the radar, did she look different in person, or what was the deal?

The Big Show / Re: Internet Livestock auctions- opinions

I think they are an absolutely wonderful service.  I have been able to watch alot of sales that I wouldn't have been able to see otherwise.  I think the auctioneers are going to have to slow down some and make sure the internet has an opportunity to bid.  It isn't like sitting in the seats where your reaction time is live, it takes a little longer to figure out what they are on.  I think overall it is a huge asset for everyone, buyer and seller alike.

From what I understand the KCCA will be posting on EDJE and in the Show Circuit for Kansas shows.

The Big Show / Re: calving heater boxes
« on: February 13, 2007, 05:22:50 PM »
Jill, where do you get them at? what kind is yours?
Thanks,
Red
We got ours from Valley Vet, not nearly as big as the one you have pictured.  It is called Roy-L-Heat, it is portable about the size of a dog house and plugs in to an electric cord.  The top opens up and the front of it has a rubber flap opening.

We purchased one of those 3 or 4 years ago and it pays for itself every year!  We only use it when the temps get low (they haven't been to bad the last couple of years) but the few days we do use it it is a life saver.  We put the calves in the box until they are dry, if they will eat first we let them do that.  The box has a huge advantage in my mind because the mother can still see the calf as apposed to pulling the calf to another location.  They are a little pricey, but I think one of our best investments!

We had a calf last year that we literally brought back from dead, the calf was snow white and blended in with the snow, she had had the calf out by the hay ring and by the time we found it the calf was hard and stiff, we lost the ears, but the calf warmed up and lived.

The Big Show / Re: Blow & Go Shows
« on: February 13, 2007, 10:52:01 AM »
The Kansas State Fair is going to blow and go,( no glue no paint this year) one of the other big show went last year and it seemed to work fine.  I think it puts everyone on a little more even playing field, it takes years and talent to learn to fit, but anyone can work hair at home.  The no fit really is a bigger advantage to those that do the work at home, it also saves a great deal of money.

On the down side you end up with a bunch of pictures that I think don't really look as nice as a fit animal and  I agree, the kids don't learn to fit for Jr. nationals and such.

The Big Show / Re: High Corn Prices
« on: February 13, 2007, 10:38:58 AM »
All I know is that my feeds are all $100 per ton higher this year than they were last year.  We also heat with a corn burning stove and that price doubled this year.  I am happy for the farmer, but it is killing the rest of us.

The Big Show / Re: PHA hot off the presses!

This may be a really stupid question, but how are you getting PHA test results back?  I had a donor I sent in and marked for both TH and PHA testing, I got her TH results back on Nov.22nd but have not ever seen anything on the PHA.  Thanks

The Big Show / Re: Shorthorn bulls? Shortdawg assistance needed
« on: February 06, 2007, 08:17:35 PM »
We used Radio Active on our Shorthorns and Shorthorn/Maines  last year, I'll let you know in a month how that turned out.  We used him on our Black Dice X Vegas to downsize a little and he is THF.
Does anyone know where I can find a picture of Proud Jazz, I tried to look him up yesterday, he sounds interesting, but I couldn't find anything on him.  Thanks
