put them in the feeder just as hay. When its really cold we just dump some of them in there and they make them selves comfortable

I bred heatwavve to a 8 yr old Big angus cow and the heifer was a week early and yet the calf had so much bone and square hip and wiered postiion/and backwards it wasa hell of a time gettin him out.
NEVER USE HEAT WAVE ON HEIFERS. not by my standards but everyone i talk to. anugs or easy calvin maine.

Depends what you want. wouldnt go wtih the fancy ones if you want a hauling trailor. We had a Keifer steel and a Fealtherlite steel and the keifer just plain wins. But then agian both steels rust out way to quick but our 4 yr old featherliught needs some attetion. My dad has looked again and seamsn to lean for the eby. They're really tough trailers. thats what alot of people around us have who haul feederes and they love em

The Big Show / Re: 4 days overdue.... What should I due?
« on: February 10, 2009, 07:44:53 PM »
We have had alotta late calves. we thinks its because of the weather its been really cold then warm then cold and not its 60 so the cows are a little bit uncomortable. we usually induce 5-7 days after due date. We give em more that that usualyl. But on some this  year they have somee big birth weight bulls bred to em so thats why we got a little worried. We never induced one last year or the year before but a few years ago we used this bull that went 2 weekds over and calf was nuts, never again we induced everyone of those cows 5-7 days depending on how close they actualy looked. but MAKE SURE YOUR DATE IS CORRECT is the main thing. thats my 2 cents hope it helps but also what some other guys said, dont strip her out thats the good stuff, at least untill calf is out to worry about mastitis. we have had some heifers that we thought had that but the vet said sometimes heifers just get some inflamation in there and just need time and a calf to suck it out couple times a day. the next year you cant remember which one had that problem.

The Big Show / Re: Donkey
« on: February 10, 2009, 06:46:29 PM »
We have one and are lucky to have a guy in our area to raise em and make sure they are well with cattle. a few hints are get a padded halter. Also keep the donkey wtih cattle at all times. The first time we used a dokey it was our neighbors and it wasnt with cattle and it saw the heifer and our heifer saw it and they went compleatly opposite ways. its a charm. i dont think its the last resort but not nessecery the first either. if the calf is young tie it up loose. we ususlay do that anyhow just to get the calf use to the rope. But then we tie it to the dokey and let her go. The guy we bought her from said dont turn her loose but its the best way to do it as long as there isnt any places for the donkey and calf to tanlge up. Also dont turn them out on a hot day. We love ours. she also stands off coyotes. We had a heifer last year that almost killer her self when we tied her up so we put her right on the donkey and within a few hours she was totaly different and in a week she was a pooch. You might just see them stand around, dont worry shes workin. ours stands around all day but the job gets done. dont ask me but the donkey gets her point accross.

Also if the donkey is biting giver her oats to fill her belly. we dont feed ours(i know sounds mean but shes over weight and always has been and she finds food somewheres) but if shes bitting we give her oats(sounds stupid to give food to bad behavor) but then she seams to quite down. Donkeys are CHARMS

The Big Show / Re: How is your county show set up.
« on: February 05, 2009, 08:37:20 PM »
I think ours is run pretty nicely. We show one day open and jr then thats it. The next day we have the Meat Animal Sale. All the people who had gotten a buyers number the previous year would get 2 free tickets to the fair for just the sale day. After the sale the buyers settle up(most) and later that week after the fair we have a buyers dinner for all who bought a animal. NOW for the money part thats a joke. They pay in order of the alphabit so say Jack Anderson, Joey Adkins later George Dan and the last theres me Jason Stanton. Say Jack A and George D and Jason S buyers paid no one gets money until Joey pays. Heck everyon with first leter of the last name b-z could pay but no one i mean noone gets money untill all the A's are paid. One year i didnt get my money till January and my fair is in Sept and buyers are suppose to pay up day of sale. The money is the only problem
