Any report on Daddy's money calves yet? Thought we would hear about some of them already. I know I have asked this question before but no responses except they should be on ground by now.  Curious how they are.

Anyone have one that they could share info about. Maybe a pic or two. How they come..

Thanks!

The Big Show / Question about M.A.B calves
« on: April 23, 2014, 08:37:12 PM »
good evening. A couple questions about MAB calves.  I was wondering what he adds to the calves? downsize, upsize or consistent to the cow? Also how do they come?

I have a foreplay cow that this will be her 4th calf and I need a bull that will add just a little bit more muscle bigger butt. This past year she had an I80 calf but would like to add more dimension to the calf.  Based on what you guys know what do you think about this cross.  MAB x Foreplay cow??????

Thanks

The Big Show / Daddy's money calves???????????
« on: April 02, 2014, 06:47:27 AM »
Good morning, I was at the Holiday Classic sale and I know that there was a few cows there or heifers that were already bred to Daddy's money for Feb and March calves.  I was hoping to hear about calves from him. Can anyone share some light on his calves? How do they look? how did they come size wise? Advise what kind of cows to use with him.  Any information would be great thanks

The Big Show / Re: pic of calf born on friday
« on: March 09, 2014, 07:05:01 PM »
His  markings  are  really  neat. I  like  the  way  he  looks.  he  is  pretty  stout .  he  is  just  now 2  days  old  and  is  jumping  all  around  and  full  of piss  and  vinegar  which  is  great.  Plus  he  comes  right  up  to  gate  to  be  petted. I know  really  early  but  really  like  him.

 thanks  for  the  compliments.

The Big Show / Heatseeker question
« on: March 08, 2014, 09:56:59 PM »
I  was  wondering  if Heatseeker  will  throw  white  on  some  calves? I  bought a  cow  in  December  that  was  to  be  bred  to  him. she  was  bred  in  May  for a  March 3rd  calve.  calf  came  yesterday  March 7.  the  calf  has  some  cool  white  markings  on  him.  the  person I  bought  the  cow  off  of  said  she  didn't  go  to  herd  bull  till  mid  June.  that  would  make  mid  to  late  April  calf.  just  curious  if  he  will  throw  color I  like  the  calf  so......I  thought I  would  ask.  thanks

The Big Show / calve in a calving pen or in pasture question
« on: February 23, 2014, 08:05:01 PM »
I  was  wondering  how  many  of  you  pull  cows  into a  calving  pen  to  calve?  If  you  do  how  many  days  before  due  date  do  you  do  this? I  usually  calve  outside  but  it  is  suppose  to  get  down  in  single  digits  at  night  this  week?  thanks  for  any  info  given.

The Big Show / safe calving pen size
« on: February 08, 2014, 11:04:18 PM »
I might have asked this not too long ago but I searched it and really couldn't find the answer I was looking for.  Hopefully some of the more experienced people on here will give some advice.

I have a calving pen that I use for single cows getting ready to calve and it is no problem.  The size of it is 16 x 24.

My question is I have  a couple cows that are due on the same day and I was wondering if I split it in two so that each pen which would be be roughly 12 x 16.  would this be enough room to get a calf delivered safely? I don't want the cow to lay then push a calf out and lay on it or try to push it out and it stop because she is right up against a fence.  thanks for any input that you maybe willing to give on this matter. It is suppose to be cold the week these two are due.

The Big Show / Re: Barn camera setup I need, is it out there?
« on: February 03, 2014, 09:31:18 AM »
I have read all of the posts on this and it sounds like a lot of you used the foscam 8910w.  I am ready to get a camera now and set up but when I was looking at this camera it is an indoor camera yes I understand inside of a barn is kind of indoors I guess but to me still outside in the weather.

Did you have to put any thing around the camera for the cold weather or just the protection of the barn was good enough.

Thanks again this was a very helpful thread.

ejoe,  thanks for all the information.  Which companies would you say to stay away from. That would be good info for all of us that are thinking about getting a system set up.  I know I would like to get the video on my phone as would most of the other people I am guessing.

thanks

So I have been reading all these posts.  I would like to have cameras in calving pen also.  I actually was researching this and then found this post also.  I was looking at a maginon camera but then was told to steer clear of it cause it was cheap.

So I actually thought about looking at the foscam but also saw a bad review on the outside camera.  The one that you guys are talking about is actually an indoor camera correct? FI8910W correct.  Can you access this camera via your smart phone. I have an android.  Does the cold weather affect the camera at all.  Also, The software for the camera have to go on a host computer or not?

Again, THanks for the information!

The Big Show / Some Help with a nervous Steer!
« on: December 19, 2013, 03:48:57 PM »
Hello all! I was wondering if anyone has any tricks that I could use on this steer.  I have a steer that is nervous when he is not on a halter.  When we have the halter on he is usually fine but will start out a little nervous then calm down. When he is eating and no halter on him you can go in and comb him if you move slow or he will leave but if he has a halter he will stand.

I play a radio all the time in the barn.
Thanks for any ideas!

« on: November 21, 2013, 07:11:47 PM »
good  evening  to  everyone.  I  was  wondering  how  many  of  you  run  fans  on  your  steers  during  the  winter?  If  so  are  you  worried  about pneumonia? I  was  wondering  about  this  because  when I  went  to  feed  tonight  my  steer  was  wet  from  sweating  and  was  wondering  about  turning  on  fans  but  am  afraid  of  getting  him  sick?  What  is  your  opinions  on  this?  Thanks  for  your  help  ahead  of  time.
