The Big Show / Re: Just Curious about private treaty sales

What I like the best about FCFS is that you know that you may not be able to aford that great one and know that you may be able to find the calf that just need stime to come on and you don't have to run around so much. Cab

I like the FCFS sales best. As producers you just need to be happy with what price you have set the animals @, and be ready to keep them if you don't get your price. If as a buyer, you are going to some of these pasture bid off sales, have a price in mind ahead of time that you are going to back off @ and try to stick to that. Than you will hopefully not get home with a calf that you aren't going to be happy with. This also helps with you wondering if you are being ran up by the seller, which I don't think happens very much, but I may be naive. Cab

Jen, have to love you. LOL You have great neighbors, but you say "IWILL shoot & charge you." I would be a great neighbor too.
What did you think about the Hawks this past week? Cab

For anybody that reads these boards and has a cow that they think is good enough  to flush, I think that posting up a message that you are needing to catch a ride headed towards McCook, Ne. would be well worth trying to get your donors to Cowboy to have the work done right along without stressing your cow anymore than nessisary. Just my opinion. I wish that he could also put the embryos all in, but that would be harder to get done without having Terry find the recips. I'm not  into opening up my herd to a bunch of recips that I have no knowledge of health status. Cab

Ext was a great bull in his time and I still have a bunch of cows out of him. I love their udders. It has to be his best trait and he put'em in there as good as any that I have ever seen. Those cows will last as long as their teeth will allow them to. I 'm sure how other 1/2 or full sibs did or are doing. It would be fun to see how many that there are already out there. Did Ext's attitude come from Mom or Dad? They can keep that in the dish. LOL. Cab

When I was younger, people would say, there's not a bull/boar good enough to use on my cow/sow. What they were actually saying that to find a sire that was going to make the dams offspring better than she herself was, was next to impossible. These people that said those kind of things were absolutely right and were great breeders. I wish that I had a couple of cows that were that good. I have the opposite problem. I can find lots of bulls to breed to. Too many bulls, cows can't live long enough. LOL. Cab

It'll be interesting to watch over the years to see how &what happens. It makes sense to clone the great bulls, but will the genetics improve slower over all b-c of it? I personally don't think ,or haven't seen near the quality of calves out of Wave-1 that I see out of HW, but are the great ones out of W-1 just called HW's b-c they will bring more that way? When we were showing alot of hogs, there was always that great litter, but within the litter there was always one that everyone wanted & if you couldn't get or afford that one pig, go to the litter and pick the next best one.  I hope that it doesn't get out of hand, b-c we won't have as many or as good of choices in the end.    Been watching the Yellow Jacket bull. Is it hard to pull black calves back out of him? It still is best to have black calves here in the midwest.
Do the Taz cows have nice udders in them & will they milk? Don't like the unpredictabilty of milking abilty of the Heatwaves & am trying to figure out where the lack of comes from. I hate a cow that can't milk or blow out bags when they are entering their prime productive years. Thanks for any info. Cab

Joe Boy, have you had a chance to ask around about the penal block? That takes care of alot of the desease risk and your yearling bull is already acustom to you and your methods of handling cattle. Cab

Joe Boy, I think that it would be best to get a penal block put in your yearling bull. I bred cows for a neighbor that used this method of making a gomer bull for some years & he got along well. I would sugest starting to research who in your area would be able to put in the block. After you are done AIing you just take the block out and use the bull to clean up. I have never heard of anyone reversing the side winder surgery. Cab

Red, my uncle that built my calf hot box for me hauls in for an outfit that is running 4 of the Claus choppers. They are working for a 7000 hd dairy right now. The bunker covers 10 acres with concrete, & of coarse has to have a DNR plan for the run off. The buiding that houses the cows covers 22 acres. The dairy is in the process of tripling. Don't know how I feel about these large dairies. That's alot of family dairies being pushed out.

You just have to love how easy it gets to grow hair when God  lends a helping hand. It is almost like corn growing in mid summer. Cab

I've made the statement B4 that the Chi's are not so wild, but very smart. Anyone else know what I mean by that statement. Not that it makes awhole lot of difference, but man they are just smarter than the ave. bovine. Cab
