Archived Classifieds / White Eye Simmi Steer- SOLD
« on: June 20, 2010, 03:25:08 AM »
Hey guys here is our last fall born that I pulled off the cow a week ago to casturate him and start working on the halter. This calf is a November White Eye X 3/4 Angus 1/4 Maine Cow that is super cool fronted. He will be an idea middle weight simmi/maine/aob in my opinion for houston with troy thomas judging if that holds true or will be one to slam dunk that county fair and still make money on him. The calf will be an easy feeder as he has attacked the feed trough the past two days of feeding! Hes real attractive from the side and has plenty of slicking power from behind with his square make up. Let me know if you have any questions. He is colored like the Mid Continent Bull Game face with solid black legs.

There is also a january Charolais that would be a decent County calf that is progressing very nicely that would be idea for a later county show.

The Big Show / Milkman or Alias?
« on: June 20, 2010, 02:51:09 AM »
Howdy guys I was in the pasture the other day and started thinkin about tryin to get an abc calf out of one of our american cows crossed to one of these bulls and try something like charles schroeder has done in fort worth the past two years. The cow is a brangus cow that is made right, super sound, huge middle, yet a little finer boned but has thrown plenty of character from every bull we have used from angus to charolais. She has zero clubby so im not concerned about structure and is also an older cow so birthweights arent an issue. She is fairly level hipped just needs more power. Which one do yall think would match her? I will get a pic asap she is not a huge cow either probably a frame score 5.5 or 6.

Thanks and gig em!

The Big Show / Irish whiskey heifer
« on: May 17, 2010, 12:01:31 PM »
Hey guys I have an Irish Whiskey daughter that just aborted so now I'm in the position to raise a spring calf instead of a fall born. Sheis extremely balanced thick and clean made she could use some depth of flank and softness of body and needs to be leveler hopped. She is moderate so not much worry there does anyone know of a bull to use on her for a good spring born steer for the state fair of Texas in Dallas. She has yet to have a calf so still worried about calving ease.

The Big Show / What makes a calf a good one?
« on: May 03, 2010, 12:49:36 AM »
Hey guys I got to thinking earlier what defines a good to great calf in your opinion. here is some choices that I came up with.

1) Cheap, gentle, and fun to show

2) Return on investment such as making money, regardless of place

3) HAS TO BE A CHAMPION!

Hey guys right now this is our last fort worth prospect in our hands there should be more to come but right now he is the last one however we do have some fine slick shearing cattle. This guy is gentle as they come just a little bit dead headed but i have yet to have a problem with him. Sound, good rib, big boned for a hereford, dense hair and will class as easy as any, he sluffed most his hair but the hair he has right now you can tell it will be great when he fuzzes back up! He is a  Double Eagle X herford/Sim/maine cow. Did i mention the Great hair! But also good enough to slick in my opinion for a polled, remember Fort Worth sales ten per class. This calf is located in college station in central texas and needs a good home because this probably wont be the last time yall see him!

The Big Show / A good year
« on: April 01, 2010, 10:08:41 PM »
Hey guys just finished up with our last show last night from last years calf sales ( first year selling) this year not counting the ones we showed we had a second place angus heifer, 2 2nd place orb heifers in houston then we had the champion overall steer in walker county fair last night, and 3 sale holes in the majors with steers but nothing as fun, exciting, and as memorable as helping the young man last night win his first overall champion honors! thats out or 8 calves sold so having 7 recognizable spots in these shows i am very pleased! Hope everyone has a great day and lets hear how some of the other programs did this year. I know this isnt extremely impressive to some but for my first year helping families i will definately take it! Best of luck this year.

The Big Show / SR/NC Field Rep Bull- Charolais Breeder Question
« on: March 23, 2010, 09:24:38 PM »
Hey guys I have a triple bred wyoming wind heifer we have done well showing with this year never lost a class and was junior division champ in houston with her. She is not excessively fat and has great epd numbers my question is has anyone used this bull on heifers in my opinion he could possibly be the match for the great one most of us are looking for with this heifer. Any feed back will be appreciated! Thank you!

Has anyone used the cloned ali bull? If so what are your thoughts compared to the original, I understand genetically they are the exact same but is there any fertility problems that anyone has discovered?

Thanks

The Big Show / What to breed angus heifer too?
« on: March 02, 2010, 08:43:10 PM »
A family i am helping has a march 2009 angus heifer that we plan to breed in july for a spring born calf for our county fair the following year. She is super super moderate framed and huged ribbed but we need more frame and bone which is typical for the angus. My question is if you were looking for a slick shear steer on a first time heifer which bull would you guys breed to, to get a little more frame/growth and power but to keep the birthweight light.  I know thats opposite characteristics  (lol) but was wondering what yall thought. On heifers this year I used Ali and Tycoon and we will see how those work come september- december.
