The Big Show / Valuing Used Show Equipment
« on: April 23, 2020, 04:11:13 PM »
I am trying to buy the following items and the current owner asked me to figure out what they are worth and make him an offer.  Before I do that, I want to make sure it is fair for both of us.

2003 Featherlite 24' aluminum stock trailer.  2 cut gates with 1/2 slide door, rear full swing door with slide, interior lights and ties down the side of the trailer.  One owner, paid $11,000 new.  Good condition

Sullivans 8' Aluminum Chute

(2)Sullivans Aluminum panels

(2) Sullivans fans with panel mounts

Any help on values or resources to find values would be greatly appreciated!

The Big Show / Mini Herefords
« on: December 08, 2015, 05:04:41 PM »
I have a 5 yr old son and a 7 yr old daughter.  Both have expressed interest in showing.  My wife seems to like the idea of starting them with Mini Herefords instead of our Simmental and SimX calves.

I know NOTHING about mini cattle.  Any thoughts, suggestions are welcome.

Looking for suggestions and/or resources for getting a kid started showing goats and/or lambs.  Any advise would be appreciated.  I have a 4 year old son and a 6 year old daughter.  Both show interest in showing, but I don't think they are ready for showing cattle just yet.

I put it on at night and wash next morming

I've done the same thing.  I've always been told you can pour Cydectin in wet conditions but I've always tried to allow 8 hours before we wet cattle we used pour on.

Hope the lice clears and your show season is a success!

You don't see a ton of Bettis calves but I have seen him work really well on certain matings.  Good luck with your calf!

The $190K heifer is at the bottom of the page for those that wanted to see a pic.

One for $190,000 and one for $25,000 puts a nice avg on Broker calves!

Does anyone know if broker has scurs I would assume he doesn't but it looks like in his photos he does?

He should be polled based on his pedigree.  Steel Force and Blackfoot are both homozygous polled.  Doesn't mean it's not possible for him to be scurred but he's not reported as such on his papers.

I know the two bidders who were on her and who sold her. Although I am always extremely hesitant to say "it was real" I feel like if was. But there are TONS of cattle that sell for 10k+++ that is legit....

I wasn't saying they aren't real money, however in my experience on big money cattle their is some discussion prior to the sale and some agreement in place as to what happens after the sale.  It's not just about someone writing a check.  Again I'm thrilled for the Hartman crew and everyone involved on this great female and on the bull as well.  I think bigger things are coming for him.

a good friend of mine was at the sale,,,he said he thought it was real money ,,he watched two guys get in a pissing match over her,,said it was the first time he saw one sell that high he thought was legit..........                                                              as far as broker calves we had a couple and love them

Hope it was.  That would be awesome in a lot of ways.  I have seen lots of cattle sell for big money.  I have seen lots sell for "real" big money, but I have seen a lot sell for big Monopoly money too.

In my opinion when they get that high you have to at least scratch your head on it.  Regardless, the bull is awesome.  I have a group of cows we are using him on soon.  We will see what happens.

Sounds like something's not right.  Bull senses that.  I'd keep watch on just in case she is slipping the pregnancy/calving early.  I hope that's not the case, good luck.

I have been pleased with ours.  I've always charged it a little early anyway but it seems to hold well

The Big Show / Re: Calving heifers...the good and bad
« on: January 06, 2013, 08:39:39 PM »
Congrats on the AI success..,and good luck with the Built Right daughter.  Our Built Right's averaged under 80#

103# heifer is big, regardless of the sire.  Our biggest calf this Fall was a 110# bull calf, born to a heifer.  She pinched a nerve and was down two days...she's fine now but we lost the calf even after giving colostrum.

Hope your's comes along ok.

I flushed this cow to him and had great results. Semen quality is high quality!

Do you have calves by him now or the flush was a success?
