Hi all!!
This is my first post I saw the topic of swine diseases and thought I'd add my experience. .. I'm a old guy and Ive raised hogs most all of my 50 years of age..right now circovirus, hamo, and strep are the ones that I highly recommend vaccinating for (young pigs) .if you have sows and boars make sure you farrowsure them twice a year...and i use a prefarrow strep vaccine on my sows as well.I understand show pigs are exposed to a lot more stressors and other diseases as well..flu comes to mind as well as shipping fever/cough. Most of the shows do a good job requiring the pigs to be signed off by a vet...when I used to show pigs I made sure the vet wrote the lot number and expiration date of the shots on the health papers as well...I am raising hogs full time now and it still amazes me how the pigs are now susceptible to germs that years ago did not bother them!!...good luck every one!!
