For the past 4 years my family has used the Sunglo product, Explode which is a ractopamine ( Paylean ) based supplement. In the past years we have raised a grand champion and 5th overall market gilt as well as multiple class winners including gilts and barrows. Despite claims we have found that if you feed the product at the appropriate and indicated rations as well as walk the hog(s) on a strict exercise plan then stiff joint and locked legs are eliminated and there is more rapid muscle growth and weight gain. Thanks to the additive we were able to win big and push hogs to make weight, so we thought. When it came to the end of the winter show season two years in a row my two best crossbred gilts who both were on Explode died while preparing them to become sows in the following months. One died while farrowing, so there is the possibility that it was to much and her offspring were to large, but then a year later another one of our gilts died all of a sudden..When used on barrows it has never tampered the taste or overall quality of the meat its still fresh and delicious!  I was looking for anyone else's opinion or experience with the supplement or if it could have long term effects. Feel free to share anything!

paylean is a huge controversy where we live. Many people are ignorant about the product, however, we do not use it on breeding swine. It is similar to ralgro in cattle in my opinion.
