12-13 month bull mature enuf?????

I have been looking at some of the sales coming up and have my eye on a bull that I am worried about being mature enuf to breed just six 2nd calvers I have. Just wanting some input from some of you guys that have May experienced this dilemma. Will it work or not ya think ?

If the bull is 12 months now and semen checks with only 6 head I don't see a problem especially if your not breeding til spring.

Young bulls tend to breed 1 several times, and then is somewhat not as attentive to the next one in heat.  If you can do it in a hand breeding deal, I would think you will have all of them exposed closer together. If a close breeding interval is not imperative, go ahead, he will probably be done in 6 weeks.

He should fit the bill if he has been fed right. I have always said that a bull that has been fed right should breed a handful when they're reaching 1200-1300 lbs.

You shouldn't have a problem.  I have had bulls that have passed their bse @ 10.5months and 11months.  I used a 1yr old a couple of years ago and he bred 35 his first year.

Like cowman52 says, watch him so that if there are two or more cows in heat at same time he doesn't fall in love with the first one and ignore the next one.  Not a big deal in a small pasture where all the cows stay herded up together.

The rule I usually us is if they pass a semen test, 1 cow for every month they are old up to about two years old they should be able to cover ~30 cows
