Please tell me what you think of my Texas Angus steers.  The top one # 58 is out of a Lifeline Grandson X a small Full Throttle cow.  The bottom one # 63 is out of the Lifeline Grandson X Full Form cow.

Id say it would all depend on how good he is and if the classifiers have a student, exhibitor or buddy with one of the same kind that might get beat by yours.  Fact is is that the entire sifting process is as political as the actual show ring.  Ive witnessed the good ole boy system first hand and it more times than not dictates who wins the breed shows.  The entire system needs revision IMO.

Ears and heads look right to me, however, clipping their heads might help as Jeff eluded to earlier.

Several years ago I had a really good friend that had in my opinion one of the nicer purebred Red Angus steers at Houston.  I mean this one was good enough to be in the hunt.  They lived in county A and another kid who lived in bordering county B had another real good Red Angus Steer.  Well my buddies daughter led her calf through the sift line and I'll be dang if she didnt get sifted.  One of the sifters was the CEA from County B, another sifter - an ag teacher was also a  buddy of the CEA. At any rate I threw a big time fit over the entire deal.  We got the CEA out to the tie out to explain how that calf could be sifted, he blatenly said they had made a mistake and was unaware that she (my buddies daughter had a Red Angus) they thought she was leading it in for the kid from County B, who the CEA and the boy from County B's dad were at war. They got the wrong calf.  During all of this ruckus I had a Polled Hereford that was a PB, he had a quarter size dot right behind his feather, he got in as he should have, however the same CEA had his daughters calf (Polled Hereford) minus the daughter, another kid was leading the calf through the sift.  The CEA in ear shot of me  stated to a prominent AST, that the sifter would not recognize the calf or the kid and he didnt think his calf would classify without the daughter on the halter.  Bottom line it matters who is on the halter and who is classifying to get one in, even if they are purebred and meet all the written classification requirements.

The previous post has happened to my family, we took a 6807 x EXT purebred Angus to FTW and out the gate just like that.  Why?  The problem with the whole deal is that the Stock Shows do not feel they owe the kid an explanation as to why their calf was sifted. The truth is they dont want to mess with it and dont have time to do it.  The first person that has a purebred Angus or any other PB that gets sifted that sues the show as well as the so called industry professional sifters will hopefully strike a chord and force them to revise the system.

If you have a good breed calf, best thing is to keep them hidden at home all year so that nobody knows to look out for them in a sift.

My thinking is....these are a couple of steers that I raised.  They both are not full blood angus they both are Lifeline X Full Throttle breeding.  But to me they just look Angus.  That is the only place they have a shot and they are priced right being from my herd.  I will try one of them and see what happens.  If I get classed out I will have a story to tell on the forum.

As others have stated it is politics! Another big problem is that a "TRUE" Angus is normally more powerful than these crossbred angus and those classifying as stated before have some sort of vested interest in a calf and are scared to compete. We had a steer that classified this year at Ft.Worth but was classed out at Angleo and this steer had classed as Angus all year including every summer show hauled to. Good Luck, all you can do is roll the dice and try.
