If anyone is interested, AAA released the list of known fawn calf carriers and those that tested free.

I see BVND 878 is NOt a carrier. That would have been very bad. I feel sorry for Schaff's tho, 5175 and 598 are carriers. I would think as many times as they used 5175 they had to have some affected calves at some point.  I still love their program tho. Made my day when I saw 878 was free. I'm sure I'm not the only one breathing a sigh of relief. My 878 daughter has made great calves with shorthorns. Looks like she will get to continue to do so, good Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

I posted this on another link before I saw yours. I'm glad they finally have a test and a list of carriers. Wonder what defect is next lol?

Haven't heard any rumblings.  I heard about fawn calf a few months after the AM and NH.  I have a 598 cow that had marked registration papers for AM due to Rito 9J9 four generations back on her dam side.  I tested her calf last year before I sold him as a yearling bull and he was clean -- I didn't test her because she was in pasture and I couldn't get a tail hair sample.  Finally got one from her this spring and she was clean for AM.  However, now I am gonna have to test for fawn calf  as soon as test is available and see if she survives the gauntlet.

My "potential carrier" list revolves around TC Freedom, and he was not on the list as tested.  Does anyone know if he was tested, or have you heard any rumors of him being a carrier of fawn calf?

Was thinking of using some Freedom derived cattle, but have not heard anything yet.  I do take back the comment above about not hearing anything on more genetic issues -- there have been rumblings of a potential new dwarfism issue.

What lines of cattle are they thinking might be affected by dwarfism?  You can PM me if you so choose...
