Beef industry takes a direct hit broadside!

Meat recall hits WalMart
Meat is a hot subject as the fallout from Rancho Feeding Corporation product recalls spreads across America and Canada. Over 8 million pounds of meat will be recalled, hitting big chains like Walmart, Kroger and Sam’s Club. Consumers were urged to return household favorites like beef jerky and frozen Hot Pocket sandwiches. The food distributors involved have jumped from just 100 to over a 1,000 in the past few days.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14, 2014 – Rancho Feeding Corporation, a Petaluma, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 8,742,700 pounds, because it processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection. Thus, the products are adulterated, because they are unsound, unwholesome or otherwise are unfit for human food and must be removed from commerce, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

By my calculations that is at least 8,742  head of cattle @ a 1,000 lb each, if not a whole lot more, if you consider the 60/60% rule of slaughter.

Where would a slaughter house get that many cattle, if not from a feedlot?
And if they came from a feedlot, what were they being fed to cause them be “ diseased and unsound animals “?
Could this be an outbreak of PEM caused by feeding ethanol DDG and/or DDGS at the feedlot?

I am trying to figure out who you are trying to attack here. The beef industry? Feedlots? Ethanol plants?

Most regulated systems are set up with a chain of custody and paperwork. If somehow the paperwork becomes suspect, by default the product is too. I wouldnt want to speculate whats going on. COnsolidated processing seems like the biggest health concern.

The USDA needs to be broken up.

I am attacking no one.
All I am doing is putting some facts and opinions out there, hopefully so that those in the cattle industry can make informed decisions.

What have I said that leads you to believe I am on some kind of an attack mission. ????

And as usual, the personal attacks and bulling starst by people who can't compete in the arena of ideas.
Or they are in psychological  denial.
(  psychology denial : a condition in which someone will not admit that something sad, painful, etc., is true or real )
Please be advised that here in after I will NOT respond to any personal attacks and they will be ignored.
Thank you

Thanks for the info, I hustled to the freezer and threw out all my beef. Salad from here on out for this guy. I also sold my cowherd in preparation for the demise of the beef industry after this record breaking news. Looks like you'll bring on your own personal attacks, good luck sir loin.
