Ever since the dairy down the road sold out my barn has become the new home to every sparrow in the county. Droppings all over. Any idea on how to eliminate them? Cow crap on the ground doesn't bother me but bird crap on the gates is disgusting.

When I lived up in Wyoming every barn had a few blank CD's hanging up from fishing line in the rafters. Turns out the shine off of them upsets birds and keeps them out of areas where the CD's are hung. Never used it myself but its inexpensive enough to try

We have tried CDs, balloons, electronic callers, and none work for very long. I have never been able to find the info about them but we own a barn that has metal rods in the corners and on the tops of the posts that were treated with some sort of repellent. That barn never had birds in it until recently. Apparently the stuff wore off, but lasted for twenty years. They probably don't make the product anymore. Go figure. Something works and they stop making it. The only other solution I have found that works is lead. Good luck!

Might have to try the shotgun route. Haven't been sparrow hunting in a while. Some birds don't bother me but when I walk in there a hundred or so sparrows take off that gets to me. It looks like white sprinkles everywhere, except these aren't from a cupcake.

What about an owl decoy? I've heard that most birds are afraid of them and won't go near them.

After a very cold winter last year we had an out of control number of birds make our barns their home. Starlings, sparrows and pigeons. Why leave when you have all the corn you want, right? We tried everything and nothing worked to get rid of them. This fall we had a red tailed hawk show up and ever since the pigeon population has dwindled to almost none and the smaller birds are becoming more scarce also. He stays in our hay mow and is always flying around the farm! He definitely has cleared out the birds for us!  :)

Warbex was taken off the market because it was killing birds that were feeding off if cows backs. I'm sure if you had any around it would be devastating mixed up with cracked corn... Just sayin ::)

I got the problem solved. Ever since I created this thread I haven't seen one bird in the barn. Behold the power of steerplanet.

We have golden eagles, red tail, cooper hawks, kestrel, kites, loggerhead shrikes, great horned owls and they do nothing to scare off the birds other than pigeon. There are pigeon and dove feathers everywhere.
