Bloody cow...

Was out checking cows and found a recip, who just got a egg a little over a week ago, literally 50% of her body was covered in blood. Her back end was covered top to bottom, and acts completely fine eye taxing. Her vulva area however is clear of all blood though. What could have happened? I see no cuts or injuries.
She did have a odd pregnancy thi spring though. Had a 40 pound calf that still only weighs about 60 pounds at a month of age. She appears to look bigger bodied after the calf.  Thought maybe she had a twin inside but she was clear of that, showed a strong heat so we placed a egg in her.

A bleeding tail would put blood over her whole body like you describe.

have had this happen a couple of times. Check the end of her tail. When cows are laying around sometimes another one will step on the tip of the tail and cut it off. They will bleed pretty bad and since there tail hurts they will swish it like crazy and cover themselves in blood. Had one that wouldn't stop bleeding, finally ended up getting her in and burning the end of it to get it to stop. From what you described I would bet that is what happened.

Agree with checking the tail.  We have had that happen several times.  Between other cows stepping on tails and snapping turtles getting tail switches in the pond, it can make a bloody, bloody mess.
