I posted the first pic of our little heifer last fall after we won a prospect show last October.  We have worked with her and raised her as a market heifer.  A month ago she won 3rd overall market animal at the Benton County Junior Show at Vinton, Iowa and today she was reserve champion market animal at the Shawn Berg Junion Show in Osage, Iowa.  The first pic is last fall and the next three are different views from today.  Any and all comments are welcome as we continue to work and raise her.  (having trouble posting pics so will try one at a time)
Thanks

What's the dam? Are you going to keep her or sell her for slaughter when done showing?

really nice female. I rememeber when you posted her picture before.
Looks like she has grown into a fancy market heifer. Good luck with her. She's thick and I really like her depth of body. Congrats! Nice when you can raise one yourself.

Thanks for the comments.  We are planning to keep her around and see if we have any luck with her as a cow. We will have to thin her way down.  Her frame size might be a problem but she is so naturally powerful, with the right breeding she might turn out some good stuff.

We were there that day. She looked good! A Monopoly steer that we raised was in the top 5. Shown by Rachel Weaver of Garner, Iowa. The Tiger Woods steer we raised last year was shown by Kelli Weaver. I wish I would have known she was yours. I would have introduced myself!

Small world!!!!  Yes, I wish we could have met.  I actually liked the Weaver calf better than the one that won the show.  Nice animal!

Thanks so much. We heard quite a few comments like that. We are just so thankful we didn't give up on him when we were halter breaking him. He was one of the WORSE calves we have ever broke. Just awful. Now he is being shown by little Rachel!! She loves that steer! We bred his Mother to Werewolf tonight. She is a Friction/Chill Factor. Hope it works!

very nice market heifer-- she seems to be the type to show in this category.
I'm not trying to knock anyone or cause trouble, but you indicated that you are interested in transitioning her from a Market animal to a breeding heifer to try her as a cow.
I guess I learned old school, but doesn't that present some potential problems with the heifer and her fertility?
I guess I learned if it is market-- it is market, if it is breeding- treat her like its breeding.  I have learned that there a whole venue of potential problems with these market heifers when they try to breed, carry calves and then try to milk
I'm opening up this discussion and sorry if I hijack your thread.
I guess- how do you other market to breeding heifer folks do it?

You are right....it is often tough to get a good cow out of the ones you feed into market heifers.  This one is just so naturally wide and powerful, we found better luck showing her in the market division.  We will try our hand with her as a cow and if it doens't work out later on we can enjoy some burgers at that point.  Nothing lost in trying. We had another market heifer that we did this with and she has turned into a great mamma.
