Howdy everyone! I have a few quick questions about clipping and shedding. First off, we are located in the southeast, and my heifer is starting to shed. Our first show is April 14th. Should I clip her, or continue to use shedding tools and hope it all comes out in a few weeks? Would the hair grow back and look healthy in time? Thanks!!

I would agree with slicking her out if your show wasn’t less than a month away. It’s a little late to do that now. Depending on when your most important shows are you could do it after this one. Otherwise just keep on her with as much combing and brushing as you can. Rinsing will help stimulate some new growth too. Good luck.

My daughter also has a heifer that is shedding pretty bad. We have other heifers with her that are not. They all get rinsed and blown about four times a week. Shows are done for awhile. Would slicking here really help?  Thanks

Use a grill brick to remove the old hair. Too close to show time to slick shear now. Think about body clipping late next fall for next spring's project.
