I was wondering what everyone else is feeding their show cattle. Are most people feeding silage or rolled/cracked corn? also what are the pros and cons of feeding silage vs. corn? thanks for all the help

Don't feed silage to your show calves. They only need a good coarse grass hay. I would use rolled or cracked corn in your feed ration. Steam flaked is the better but it is more expensive and sometimes hard to come by. If you have access to corn silage I would feed it to your cows. If you are buying the silage I would compare the cost of silage based on the dry matter content per ton vs. quality hay per ton. Usually you can get the same bang for your buck buying good quality hay vs. corn silage. Around here we have both for sale but you can get good quality hay for less than silage right now. If you have the silage and a place to store it and handle it, use it. If not, I would just buy quality hay and feed it.

corn silage can be used to put more middle on calves, or sometimes when they are off feed and wont eat your regular grain/hay feed

in addition to big middles, they calves can make loose droppings when on wet silage.  Watch how much you use

Be careful with corn silage it may contain molds, especially this year.
