Defender Promise
« on: May 27, 2015, 09:01:09 PM »
Thinking about Double Brute reminded me of this Haumont bull from 1965 that I really like.

Awesome picture! That is what I am trying to put back on my shorthorns is that head! I really like that head shape and it seems to work as previously mentioned in another thread. Looks like this guy genetics were tightly managed.

Probably my overactive imagination but, to me, Shoshone Viking looks like an Angus version of Defender Promise.
Functional phenotype and naturalistic photography converge.
Wonder who has crossed those line bred strains?

Defender Promise was probably the most noteworthy Haumont bred bull of his day.  I think he was used by several popular Shorthorn breeders, perhaps R. Lee Johnson was one of them?  There's a more commonly used photo in many Shorthorn World issues.  It probably wouldn't be all bad to use him as a retro bull today.

Here's another picture of Defender Promise along with his sire and mgs, Par Defender.   That relation alone would put his IBC% over 25%.  Then notice how many shots of 'The Defender' appears in Par Defender's pedigree.

DO you think there is semen left around on Defender's PRomise? R. Lee Johnson family is just outside Columbus, OH. I just wonder if its still out there.
