I have a solid black detour hfr calf out of a first calf pb simmy hfr sired by chopper. The calf came easy at 58# and had tons of vigor. The dam is an ex show hfr so pretty much a pet, but the hfr calf is a little flighty. Other than that, I'm really pleased with the calf. Its 3 weeks old now and is growing like crazy and has a lot of look to her. Definitely gonna use more detour on my virgin hfrs!

I have a son of Detour that I am using in my shorti-Red Angus composite herd. He's a tick high headed. I know we have at least one amazing calf out of him.

Yes OH Breeder, that bull.

Aj, I saw a pic of you detour son on this site somewhere and was real impressed. Can you post the pic of him again? He looked to have more power than his sire.

Yes....he's a 1a purebred Red Angus. We bred him to fifteen cows or so. We got one calf out of him that is 3 quarter Red Angus quarter Shorthorn that is a standout stud for sure. I'm guessing he is a tick over being a heifer bull.....only one calf over 90 though. For some reason we have alot of neat little composite bull calves hitting this year.

aj, a few years ago I went to a talk by Dr Gerald Stokka on vaccines. He is a verteranarian who did work for Genex and has Stokka Ranch in N Dakota. He asked me a lot of questions about my efforts to match cow to environment. His own program was built around trying to breed OCC type Red Angus. I always thought his breeding might fit with yours and the picture of your young bull reminded me, but maybe you already know him.
