Do you think Diamond Legs 21 is a bull that was a bit ahead of his time? Is he a bull that should be revisited today? I always liked any of his calves I saw as they were thick, well muscled and had capacity. Some said they were too small in that era but I have wondered if he is a bull that could be used in some flushes.

I think you could get original Leggs semen for around $100 and it should be worth more than Leggs 21 in my opinion.

One of the stoutest Shorthorn bull calves I have ever seen to this day was sired by Diamond Legs 21 and that was nearly 15 years ago.

I owned Diamond Leggs 21 and have retained all of his semen after i purchased him from Churchs. We still use him today and his females are the absolutely the best mothers. Limited semen is for sale. Feel free to pm me.... Semen is all of flush quality

My first Shorthorn heifer was out of a Leggs 21 cow. She was the first Ar Su Lu Kool daughter sold. She was so small that I don't believe she was big enough pelvicly to have the 80 lb Eskimo Joe bull calf that we pulled out of her. Long story short, She was a show champion at several fairs, very clubby and hairy. Her first calf by Eskimo Joe, a steer, sold for over $3,000. Unfortunately, her next calf was breech and we took her to OSU. They said she was scarred from the first calf and would not be able to give normal birth on her own. We then flushed her to a TH free sire fearing that she may have TH and the tests were not available yet. She ended up having TH and PHA. The bull we flushed her to also had PHA and there was no test at the time we put the eggs in. Well, we all know how this story ends and it isn't good. Dead calf, dead recip, and our first Shorthorn purchase heading to the sale barn.  <rock>

With all that said, I can't honestly say from experience whether the small pelvic area causing the scarring was a genetic trait from the sire or the dam's side. My other Kool daughter has done well. Anyone with daughters from Legs 21 see this as a potential problem?

Interesting information on the Eskimo Joe and Diamond Legs cross. It is the same type of cross as MY Eskimo Leggs Bull. The 21 female that we had was out of a Gizmo female. Eskimo Leggs was a 72 lb calf and had a natural non assisted birth. The best cow in his pedigree was though was a dazzler cow in my opinion. I think alot of the blood like diamond legs gets left behind for a new bull and they are forgotten. It is one of the reasons that I have some Eskimo Joe left in my tank also.
