Last may I was looking at the sale page of Topsires and noticed Duramax semen for 9 bucks a unit, I bought 20 units just for gits and shiggles because I had liked the bull and thought he would be good to breed to those your just not sure about. Turns out the semen quality was awesome, I got 9 out of 10 stuck and that's with second calf heifers. What even better is the calves I have so far. Out of the Golden Child, Warrant, Waznt Me, Hairy, Alias, Paddy O' Malley, duramax, and Womanizer calves I have so far the Duramax calves are the most uniform in terms of birth weight, and vigor at birth. He seems to make them pretty black with no paint, he will make smokies though and I have one calf that is a little too straight, but that's also the cows fault. Granted they are only a couple weeks old I am impressed with him and will go back to him this year, and even use him on some of my better cows! I will post some pictures if you would like as they grow. I'm just putting this out there that underused bulls can still be of value come breeding time and at a pretty nice price! (thumbsup)

glad to hear this.  I am too thinking there are bulls out there that will work but due to no marketing or poor marketing, they are not talked about.

Any pictures of your Duramax calves that you could share with us????  I got one calf out of him when he was a newbie but I thought he was just ok and haven't used him since.  What types of cows did you use him on?

I think this is one of the problems with trying to get a bull promoted and get people to use him in his first year in the club calf industry, because a pretty good bull can  slide under the radar with alot of people if he is not promoted well in his first year, and if he doesn't hit a big homerun in his first year he really doesn't get used much again.

That is the downside to Duramax being a carrier but we use clubby bulls primarily as a terminal sire set and to market a few as show calves, only the clean and very good get kept as replacement females.

I see the breeding on Duramax but am wondering what types of cows did you use him on. I have a variety of cows and do breed some for terminal only. I see the clubby sires but wonder if the cows were alot like the CHarlois cow you posted? If you could post some calves that would be great.

I was able to take a picture of one of the durmax calves before the light was all gone, the cow in the background is his mother. As you can see she is not an impressive cow by any means pretty shallow and plain.

I will try to get some profile pictures but this was just with a cellphone when I got home. I never have had luck with getting a calf to stand broadside.
