The extremely popular Facebook group, Everything Show Cattle has been deleted and with it, a place where 60k+ members have been congregating for the last few years.

Some of us old time Steerplanet users would like to bring Steerplanet back to the forefront. Hopefully we will get some folks to check out the site for the first time or come back to it.

With that, it may behoove the site to tweak the format of certain things and to be welcoming to the potential influx of new users.

I myself have not been very active here for a couple of years but hope to change that.

I second that! With the right moves the planet can be the premier listing spot for private treaty sales, discussion among people an ultimately somewhere to pay big bucks to advertise and expose. I met a lot of my current friends many years ago on steerplanet and would love to see other young people have the chance to make those connections by a spike in traffic

Fb was always the equivalent of dealing with the devil. They'll get nearly every group before it's over with. Private farm pages and even personal profiles have been getting hit the last few weeks, so it's only a matter of time.

Websites and forums suddenly became cool again.

If the forums were at all user friendly or optimized for mobile use, they would have not declined so much. SP has had the same general interface since I started using it in 2006/7.

How does format need to change for next gen.
It does have a lot of blank space at the top and other areas.

Not sure facebook and twitter are needed (for anything really)

Sure they are “free” but you are their product to advertise to and screen narrative.

Websites and forums suddenly became cool again.

This is Aaron Hartman with Hartman Show Cattle ( formerly Hartman Club Calves) .  This will be our go to site again, was able to put pictures with my listing today so that has been fixed since I last posted. Really used to enjoy this site and excited to bookmark it again.

What was great about Everything Show Cattle was the next gen is always on Facebook. Also the next gen as a whole want everything right in front of them with minimal effort on their part. So when they scrolling through their newsfeed then sales will be there right in front of them. Or they could just type “ISO of a steer/heifer etc” and watch all the options for them to choose from come rolling in.

As a seller it was easy to get the word out about our sales and sell private treaty too. Plus if anyone had a question then that question would get answered 100+ times over. Not really the case here.

Since it’s gone, what another example that leverages what u are talking about.
If you’re asking me, I wondering what you mean by leverage. Steerplanet still won’t be the go to selling animals. I have posted many times on the Cattle Sales and never get a nibble but I sold a lot using Facebook. I’ll start using MeWe and see if it works.

started that just now.  did you buy the $1.99/mo page or just post.

whats the effective difference.

(I can't stand facebook and twitter and their politics and narrative pushing)

Just post. We’ll see how it goes. I didn’t see the 1.99 option but I wouldn’t pay it anyways.

I’d definitely like to be able to upload pictures.  Routinely I try to post something and it says file size is too big every time.  Even just a single photo.  Content wise, hopefully the page will go more in the direction of the type of posts you see over on the cattleforum as opposed to just post after post of shameless plugs and self promotion

just do a save as, lower the "quality" and you can upload it. screens are 72dpi, so if the zoom is where you want it, do a copy and save as and when prompted, choose a lower quality and it will look fine.
