I was wondering how important or how much exercise a cow or heifer should get like a week before calving date? I am asking this because I don't have calving runs but I do a 14'X16' pens that I was going to use when I bring the cows in to calve.  Most of the time we try and have the calves out in pasture and then bring them in right away but it is very very wet now and is only going to get worse with big rain storm moving in over next week when cows are due.

So question, bring them in to pens this weekend to calve next week sometime or let them outside then bring them in?
thanks in advance.....

I figure it this way - better to have a healthy calf born in a pen that a calf drowned in the mud. I bring my close up cows and heifers up to the barn at night and let them out during the day - anyone who looks real close stays in...bought one cow up 2 and a half weeks early - she looked like she was going to go early - I felt guilty for locking her up - she calved 14 days early in a pen! calf and dam are fine. Yours should be fine....
