I am getting ready to flush this female in November.  She is sired by HC Power Drive 88H.  She is heterozygous black, so I have considered flushing her to a heterozygous black bull just to see if we'd come up with any reds from this mating.  Really want marketable calves with a chrome face, whether red or black.

As of now, Built Right is the bull of choice, just wanted to get the thoughts of our Steer Planet friends.

If you want showy, Built Right is a good choice. Also, he is Heterozygous too. Just depends on what you want to use them for. There are also Fat Butt and Grandmaster who are Homo black, and if you want a Red bull, then Amigo is a good one for that. I would say if you want Hetero and Showy, Built Right is the definate best choice. He doesn't really add any width and power, but he doesn't take it away, and for fronts I have seen and heard that he throws them like the cow. He will definately add that showy look, and I have seen many blazes out of him. His progeny show really well. Good choice. However, I have heard that he canbe inconsistent, so when you get the calves if you flush to him, don't be surprised if they don't all look alike. I still think he is a good bull, and I have bred some of my best ones to him this year.

Thanks!  I haven't thought about Amigo.  We have considered Fat Butt as his popularity keeps increasing and he has the power.  We do hope to throw some showy calves out of this mating.  The donor will be 11 years old this fall.  Trying to really make smart choices on flushing her more and more as she ages.  She had a show career of her own back in her day.  I had someone who wants to flush her to KCC Saginaw, and we might do that early next year, but this next flush is going in recips for 2012 calves.

I agree with what you say on the inconsistency of Built Right.  I have seen some major show winners come out of him and seen some calves that I wouldn't take in the show ring....I think the good out weigh the bad, but there are those outliers out there.

If it was me I'll look at Built Right, GWS/SCF Rendition, GCF Mr Amigo, JS Burning Up 33R, Remington Lock N Load 54U, Winchester HR P8315, Top Fuel U250 HR, GCF Beyond, JF Milestone, SHS Enhancer S5, SVF/NJC Third Degree R158, CCR Red Line 5338U, and Jass/JS Optimizer. Just my 2 cents. Happy Thoughts and Good Luck.

We have a Power Drive  donor that clicked pretty well with all the Dream On sons...Built Right, Steel Force and Dream Catcher.  However, with all three bulls, there is a chance of getting more white than you want...I'm sure it would be the same with Cut Above....whenever you use a baldy on a baldy, strange things can happen.  Am I correct in seeing a baldy face on the pictured donor?

I agree with the chances of a lot of white, she does have a bald face.  We are breeding and marketing 80% of our cattle as purebreds.

Built right does make some good show heifers, I showed one myself, and ot along real good.  However, when it come to production oriented she wasn't just real easy fleshing and did't hold her figure like you want them too.  We are really like the red simmi's and we have just bought semen on a bull called Freedom, I think he is super complete.  If you are wanting top of the line red bulls, I suggest you go to haleranch.net.  We have bought some from him and he has some great genetics.  Regardless of production goals his kind of cattle are the right kind.  Immediately I think of Top Fuel, as  a great red bull, and there are many others.  If you have any questions about any red bull let me know, if i don't know i will find someone that will.

Thanks.  We had some embryos out of Freedom x Swaim Velvet.  Freedom does a nice job.  Haven't thought about him for this flush, good thought.  A friend of ours up the mountain has just bred a red Dream On daughter they just bred to Top Fuel.

I think Dream On himself would be my choice for your Power Drive , that mating seems to work ! I know you want baldys but i think Built Right and her could have the chance of kinda painting them up a little too much . Just my opinion im no expert !!!

Please pardon me for jumping in here...but it seems the color is the number one priority you're looking for...    I know that isn't correct, but the posts are mainly geared for color, and I'm sure you have other traits you're looking for, so please mention them here because your "marketable" baldies will be a LOT more marketable if multi-trait selection techniques are used when selecting her date.    <rock>

My initial reaction is that I would use Steel Force on your cow, and i think husker1 mentioned that. If you have flushed her in the past and can consistently get 8 or higher out of her, Steel Force would be the way to go for you. I realize it will cost you more up front for the semen, but from the buyer's perspective the Steel Force progeny are just so much more marketable. Don't get me wrong, a good Built Right heifer will be worth some money, but his bulls will not be worth as much. Also, I'd like to suggest Milestone, who was mentioned as well. I have two PB heifers out of him that are by far the best I have raised. He is a baldie as well. If you are going to get to put the embryo's in fresh, that would make me more comfortable with using that high-priced semen. But with your cow aging, I could see why you'd want to use Built Right. The truth is, everybody wants that one great one, and he has thrown as many great ones as any. Good luck!

this seems to be the number one thing on most people's minds when it comes to matings, especially one kid on here.  if it's colorful, it sells.. if it's black it doesn't, or visa versa.. It follows the trend.. PB sim people want solid black, maybe a baldy...  crossbred and other breed people want as much color as one can be without a paint brush.

I really like them Built Right heifers, they have that show look but are still awesome maternal mothers down the road. I love the black baldies he makes, I used him on my avatar Heat Wave heifer that she is pregnant with now. Can't go wrong with him, he might not have the muscle some of the bulls have but he is not lacking in muscle and has the show look in him with good maternal traits. I like Fat Butt also as I have used him on a Meyer 734 daughter this year, but I would chose Built Right, just my opinion.
