One of the hardest things about the Ft Worth steer show is getting through the sift. If you get sifted, you dont show. Good Luck!

We will be there with Shorthorn heifers for the Junior and Open shows.

The sift is not that big of a deal, as long as the animal is actually what you are trying to classify it as.  Where so many get in a bind is attempting to pass off a cross that pushes the envelope on breed characteristics.  This is why you see a lot of "Shorthorn" looking steers in the European classes, because they know the calf does not meet the breed criteria because of the "Clubby" influence in it.  I will be the first to admit that some slip through the cracks and get in, but why take the chance.

Just makes it hard when you have regrestration papers for your steer, and they tell you to go into the AOB classes with a fullblood shortie.  One black bean and your in the AOB class, good luck with a full blood animal in there.

In Ft Worth if you get sifted you dont show.

I have seen several purebred Shorthorns get sifted out. I knew they were purebreds because I knew where they came from.

We've sold true Angus steers that have gotten sifted.  In fact, more of them have been sifted than ones we've sold with a little something else that were shown Angus.

I would also agree about the sift. My cousin got sifted 3 years in a row. Her Steers were not good enough to make the show. Even if you have the breed characteristics they still have a pretty hard sift.
