While we had our cattle at the Ft. Worth Stock Show, a team of TCU Journalism students came by doing interview with exhibitors.  The interviews were for a documentary they were entering in the FOX College Challenge.  The video not only contains video of my family and other exhibitors, but also some statistics on beef industry trends.

I thought this video really tied in nicely to JBH's post.  The whole video was filmed by outsiders to the beef industry looking in.  From the multiple interviews we did with them, it was interesting to see the highlights THEY though were important, not what us cattlemen thought was important.

The beef industry really needs to humanize again what it is about.  The consumer needs to see real families and the stories behind these families that are producing the hamburger and steaks on their plates.  They may be getting their meat at Wal-Mart, but they need to know that it is you, I, and everyone on this board that they are buying from.

I want to wish the fine young ladies from TCU the best of luck in their competition!  <party> (clapping)

I LOVE how you can read her little lips at the very end and see she said "I Love you" to the bull. The industry can use more positive videos, so thanks for sharing.

Zane that is soooo awesome, did you tell me about this?  Your little girl is sooo sweet to in it.  Wish there's a way we could get it aired on the CBS evening news or something!!
Made me shed a tear at the end!!

FYI... for those of you who don't know Zane he's a awesome guy and came to our rescue in Ft Worth and helped us get our sons steer fitted.  Did a wonderful job!!  Thanks again.

Great video!

Thank you for the kind words Brenda!  If things go well in the competition, it may be aired on one of the FOX channels. Not sure though.

People on the outside looking in think we are just crazy for the money we spend on cattle.  I got the same thing when I showed horses when I was a kid.  My argument always is, how much money does all the basketball, volleyball, etc sports costing you?  Does it ever pay off?  What other activity can the whole family go to, all participate in some capacity with and have as much fun?

Personally the people who aren't involved with animals are the ones missing out.  Yes, I've had a horrible calving season and just this morning one of my non-animal friends asked me why I thought it was worth it to have the calves dying like they are and all the work I'm putting in to them. I just sent that friend a pic of my 11 year old daughter nose to nose scratching the bottom of the neck of a 2 week old calf we have.  They were in the middle of the hay ring and the sun was shining bright on them both.  That is why I keep doing this, cause the good far outweighs the bad every time.
