Most of last week I spent my time in Perry Georgia at the State Livestock Show there. Although most of my time was spent in the hog barn ( my students show hogs, not cattle) I made my way  to the cattle show arena plenty of times. I spent my college years outwest (Oklahoma and Texas) and saw tons of great cattle. And I can honestly say the heifer show in Perry is about as impressive as I have ever been around. Now it's no San Antonio Junior Heifer Show, because there isnt much eared cattle in Georgia and they don't have the shear numbers that San Antonio has, but the top end that was in Perry was truely impressive. I just wanted to say congrats to the kids, parents, exhibitors, agents, and ag teachers that were there exhibiting cattle. You guys did a remarkable job. And although I didn't stay for the steer show, I walked the barns and the top end of steers can certainly be competitive outwest. This isn't meant to start an arguement over which state has the best cattle, I just think the quality in Georgia gets over looked sometimes, and wanted to pay my respects to those folks that deserve it.

Thanks Grizz.  You need to get some kids from your school showing cattle.  Bet ya'll didn't have any exploding paint cans to add to the excitement in the pig barn!!  New rule for next year:  No bucket heaters

Yeah you guys over there in the cattle barn are always providing some kind of excitement, we certainly didnt have any of that stuff happening in the hog barns. Yeah I can definately imagine that being a new rule for next year.

I heard the Champ. Shorthorn/ 4th Overall Champion was way good. That young man works his butt of to get his own raised cattle looking good.

Yeah she was real nice, the heifer he bought from Sullivan's is real real good to, she got 2nd in class to the reserve champion shorthorn. The solid white heifer that was third in that class is real solid too. Like I said real nice cattle all the way thru.

How about the boy breaking his hip in the steer show?

That was a tough deal. He had surgery at like 1:30 am the next morning and they said the break was clean which allowed them to fix it with something like three screws. They said he was worrying about showing next year already. This all happened in my son's Angus steer class and I saw it all.  In fact this calf nearly ran into my son and his calf before he ran out of the ring.
