The last few years we have tried private treaty sales and last year and this year we are going with online sales. Our problem is we have the genetics and the quality but just can't get any traffic to look. We have a website we have a face book page but still last year we didn't have very good turnout. Check out the pics  Clifford Farms on Showsteers and facebook. What else can we do to get people in to look?

You could try putting an ad in one of the show magazines. For me, I've just looked at show steers under my state and clicked on the websites that were updated. I hate seeing websites that are close to a sale and haven't been updated in 2 or more years.

Bet you could get a bid on her now. Lol. She's nice. Maybe try putting flyers out at shows, buy a bullet ad on the left of this forum page, or try to consign a couple to another sale. Main thing is you get your name out there and get a few happy customers that tell their friends and neighbors. "They will come", just keep at it.

It is very hard to establish a market for calves.  We struggle with the same problems you are having.  The best advertising is getting a calf in good hands and having it look good and win.  Then they will come the next year but you have to have some thing be competitive every year.  The other thing is their are so many fluffy babies sold on line you better have them too fat and hairy to get them to sell good as babies.

Where are you located? What is your facebook page?
The calves are located between Columbia City and Fort Wayne Indiana and the facebook page is Clifford Farms. We do have 2 full sibs to the heifers pictured above for sale this year

Maybe you're asking too much for them.  Personally, I am ok with selling some calves below what I think they're worth sometimes.  Obviously you can't make a habit of it, but when people get a "good deal" and the cattle work for them they come back, and they tell their friends.  Establishing a marketing program sometimes means letting some go for less than top dollar.

We have had the same problem especially due to our location but this year we sold all our calves in our first online sale. A cheap way to advertise your calves is through Facebook advertising. You can run a Facebook ad for just a $1 a day and you will get a lot more exposure. We had around 200 likes did the Facebook advertising for a few weeks at a $1 a day and now we have over a 1000 likes and we have a lot of inquiries from Facebook. We get enough business from Facebook that I cancelled our web site. Always make sure you have good pictures and get your calves fat and clipped up. A lot of people can not look at a green calf and see the potential it has especially without seeing it in person. We had a calf a few years ago that I posted on our web site and advertised locally that was real green but I knew he was good. I even lowered the price and nothing so we kept him fattened him up and did a lot of winning with him. So it's important to get them looking show ready. If your not good at taking pictures hire a photographer to get some good pictures for you because most will look at your pictures before coming out in person. A good picture will help get them out there to see what you have. Good luck!

For me if you would list your location on your profile, I may have called you by now. Do you still have the BIM steer?
