Getting started on the right foot
« on: September 12, 2016, 12:36:18 PM »

My name is Jordan and I am needing some help.  I don't have any cattle yet, I wont own any cattle probably for another 4 yrs, but I think I have a good plan.  I plan on own 6-8 cows, half will be registered simm and half will be registered shorthorns.  I plan on buying some 2-3 yr old cows from these two farmers, just run them on a market bull for the first couple of years just to get my bearing on owning/operating cattle myself and to help pay off the loan.  After those first 2 yrs I want to dive into AI and start to freshening up my herd with some quality genetics so that when my first born is old enough he can have decent calves to show with and maybe sell a couple during the fair times and some of the smaller club calf auction.  I would like to pretty much mix a quality registered shorthorn bulls to the simm cows and then throw some club calf bulls on the shorthorn cows.  I just havent shown or been in the show calf game for almost 10 yrs and my knowledge of the better club calf and shorthorn bulls is obsolete.  I am thinking about putting 2-3 grand into buying semen and I am interested in some of the good bulls for this period.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you
