We have a Monopoly/Friction steer that I started giving Melatonin to a week and a half ago. Big change in him. We can wash him, groom him, lead him around now without the blow ups.
He is around 375-400 lbs now, and I give him 50mgs a day( I bought the 5 mg dose, so 10 a day). I will decrease the amount the more we work with him. This stuff just takes the edge off. Works wonders. I didn't think we were going to be able to break him. He was a tough one. He's a pretty good steer. I am a firm believer in this stuff after seeing what it did for him!!

If you are feeding it to grow hair you will need to feed 100 pills a day. I know the recommended amount of Melatonin per day in grow n shine is 100 ml a day.

You can buy it at wal-mart in pills for like $3/120 I think. Grow and shine is the same thing in a liquid concentrate, but it costs a lot more.

He looks good.

I had to zoom in on that picture because I thought I saw a hat on his head lol
I should have taken the fleece protection off before I took the picture. He would fight us so bad when we first started working with him, that I would always put the fleece on his halter.
I think now, I could put a hat on him, and he wouldn't mind!

Are you taking that big guy to the prospect show in Des Moines?

Looks like he has a lot of power!

He will be there, along with our Tiger Woods steer. Matt Lautner has a new picture up on his blog of our Tiger Woods.

Their the same thing.

Pills, you have to feed a lot more of them but they cost a little less.

Grow & Shine, liquid concentrate but pretty expensive.

OK Thanks!  We just started to use the Grow and Shine, and I know that it is expensive.  Especially when you have several show calves.

The two steers, and a heifer are getting clipped this Saturday for the open show in Albert Lea, Minnesota this Sunday. Maybe if I can get them to cooperate, I'll try and get better pictures. Thursday the 12th is when we leave for The Iowa State Fair.

One warning about Melatonin, it will cause watery Diarrhea in cattle.

Not all of them will get it, just like people, they react differently to medication. It is a side effect of Melatonin.
