Help me pick a bull
« on: July 01, 2016, 02:59:39 PM »
I just picked up a new show heifer for my oldest girl and I'm trying to plan ahead a little. Most of my past experience is with purebred Brahman and Simmental cattle so I don't have a clue where to go with this one. Well, I bought a nice red Chi heifer and just got the papers in today and she's actually only about 13% Chi. My daughter wants to use her to raise show cattle for her and her little sister. If we end up with a nice heifer I'm sure we'll hang on to it but for now, they're ate up with the steer bug lol.

The first picture is the day we unloaded her at the barn. I'll try to post up a couple more.

I would also try red wine.  I-80 also does work on the wdm x hs line.

I have three Who Da Man daughters in production and they hit on just about anything that is clubby.  For a first calf, I would probably breed to I-80, Daddy's Money or No Worries.  We love them, but their dispositions are all different, out of the three there is tame, a little nutty and wow crazy.  Second calves and on there are a lot of options, Monopoly, Swag, Fu Man Chu, the list is endless, there are just good functional cattle.  We have a Maternal Perfection too out of a Who Da Man x Kadabra/Total Play, that is really good, just bred her to Uno Mas, the Simmi.  Good luck with your purchase.

Appreciate the good info. I'll check them out.

I helped a guy with a No Worries steer last year and he was crazy as a run over cat. He was a heck of a calf but crazy, crazy. He ended up going to the sale barn.

There are alot of quality breeders using slider on heifers. I am confident in recommending him for calving ease and he is backed by maternal ability. His current calf crop has been outstanding and the calves are exceptional. I am confident he could work in this mating.

Gargan has a really good red simmintal calving ease bull, which would work on a chi-cross-I personally think Sultan of Jazz for a first calf-he has more rib than anything mentioned-best temper, a'lot of bone,as EZ keeping as any if not more so and as EZ calving as any, plus color which isnt a bad thing down south-It would probably be a real nice dark red roan,or red O0

WT I would maybe give Tyler Winegardner a call.  He and Kurtis probably know more about breeding Who Da Man daughters than anyone else.  Their bull Dual Threat was an I-80 out of their WDM x Ace.  I heard that he has flushed her to Daddy's Money, I'm sure he knows something.

And the list grows lol. Appreciate it guys.

I'll sit down this evening and check out the rest of them. On my commercial heifers I try to breed them at about 15 months but I think I'm going to let her get to about 20 or so. Any benefits or drawbacks to that? Just shooting for a Sep/Oct calf.
