We finally got our papers on a heifer that we bought last fall.  I was under the impression that she went back to Double Vision on the cows side (bulls side is chi) but when we got the papers all the names on the cows side are ones I have not heard of.  I am concerned and we are going to have her TH tested pending the outcome of our research on her bloodlines.
Is there anyone out there that knows shorthorns really well and may be able to help?  email me at [email protected]

Thanks  Mommacow

The Shorthorn genetics look like typical Barry Jordan genetics. The KL is Keith Lauer, which is some genetics that Barry added to his herd. I would be very suprised if there is any D.V. in the pedigree of the Shorty side.

Without access to the Shorthorn search I can't say for sure, but I would say some bulls in the pedigree might be Sprys Stars and Stripes (Australian), possibly Iceway Magic, and  HS Rodeo Drive  Looks like good bloodlines from what you have listed. Lots of performance bred in the Waukaru cattle, and also on the granddams side if she comes from the herd I think she might.

I wish the shorthorn site search was working.  But even if it was I honestly do not know these lines.  My kids informed me that the steer that we have was the DV. So I stand corrected on any DV being in her lines.

You can always call Barry - I have found him to be exceedingly helpful and he responds to email..

(welcome)  mommacow!

Good luck w/ the heifer. It is a pain for the site to be down but you've got a lot of great Shorthorn help here.

Barry & Toby (Jordan of Waukaru) have 100% THF sires, as I recall.  Keith Lauer (KL) is extremely commercial cattle-oriented in his program, so it would be very surprising if he has any Double Vision in his herd.  KL Double Duty is from Lauer, but there is no DV breeding in his pedigree.

You got a better deal than you have realized. The bottom side of her pedigree is functionality and usefulness, the top side is  sollely"marketability" and currently popular hide color. Breed her to something soft, big-middled, and easy doing (and easy calving). She already has phenotype from her sire, and growth and performance on the bottom side.

I am glad to hear that she has pretty good breeding.  I looked up Waukaru and emailed them directly.  Since the shorthorn site is now up and working I looked and she does have Sprys Stars and Stripes and HS Rodeo Drive  in her lines.  She is certainly a fast grower, she is out performing the steers at this point.
