Roan bull has weak back with faulty thurl position.
I wasn't going to mention it but he does look like he could use a pusher axle in the middle.  I don't know how important that is dollar wise or if it is just my preference but that tail head points pretty high too.
His back certainly isn't a strength, but the concrete floor wasn't really helping. He looks better out on pasture and I think he will get better in the coming weeks. Unfortunately I didn't have anywhere else to put him while waiting to send him out, but I was happy with how his feet stayed in check on the concrete (most of the steers get skis after a couple months in the old dairy barn). I'm happy enough with him to run as a cleanup bull while we AI in pursuit of breeding a better replacement.

There aren't many perfect bulls, I am sure you could find faults with mine. Use him and enjoy him.

When the thurl is so far back toward the pins,  it is very likely for the back to be weak because the pins are tipped up and the hips forced down.   The show ring has been selecting for this conformational defect for many years with those absurd high tail heads thought to be fancy and desirable.   This also tends to narrow the pins and increase calving problems.

Yes another example of the show ring messing up good cattle.  Sometimes I think shows should not have judges, just let the audience look them over and everyone can draw there own conclusions.

Not the best pic, but we're reai excited about what this bull can do.  Very unique pedigree and proven performance, we think he'll add something to our genetic base.

Did you spray him with hydrogen peroxide?

What happened to the deep red colour? He looks like a red angus in the picture!

Mostly due to my photo skills.  When he's  haired up in winter, he's definitely a deep, rich red.  We have seen this with other cattle we bring from Canada and the upper Midwest when they shed in summer.
