We are run OVER with flies. House flies, horse flies, yellow flies etc. I keep the stalls fresh and clean, but we live near a swamp in a very humid area. Does anyone have any advice om how to keep these pesky things away? Anything form sprays to barntreatments would be helpful lol.

I would get some permectrin with PBO in it. Mix in a sprayer with water and spray down the barn premises everyday. Spray it on the manure piles and on the cattle. If it is bad on the cattle you may need to invest in an oiler system. (Easy Way Oiler)

why not go to the source?   How big is the swamp, and how much water is standing.   You can spray all day and all night, but if you have shallow standing water, they're going to receive reinforcements on a daily basis.   If the water is deep enough for small bream, stock the swamp with some fish to eat the larvae.   If very shallow....use some legal aquatic pesticides in the swamp.    <rock>

Golden Marlin FLy Bait- put some on some plastic lids and place on ledges around the barn.  Works great, when full of flies, throw the lid away, and replace, or clean off and reuse.

In my opinion fans are about the best fly control. Flys won't land or if they do they won't stay for very long if there is a lot of air movement.

optimizer tags are like the economy model tag made by Y-tex. If you read the label directions, you are supposed to use two at the same time.  I have never used Optimizer, but have always had good luck with Warrior and Magnum.  I have often wondered if the Python were effective as well.  If the Optimizer is all you have available, I don't see why it would hurt to use them.

I have thought about tags, cause we don't have to state tag our calves till September, plus I have to put two tags in their ears anyway. But I have heard they are poisonous?

Go to Home Depot and get some of the bag fly traps. They work wonders! Just hang them in your barn.

Fly Predators...horse farms use em in their barns with great success...the fly bait is really really good to. The bag fly traps have just done ok for me, not horrible, but just cant seem to keep up with the flys, and in the summer you will swear there are dead animals everywhere they stink so bad.

We have the GM fly bait, have used it for a while. I have a few friends that use fly predators in their barn and seem to love it. It seems a bit pricey but then again quality over price

We use about 25 chickhens they are cheaper than fly predators plus you can sell the eggs. Flies use to be horrible and now it is hard to find one. We also run fans which helps a lot. Anything that eats the larvae will fix the problem on a more permanent basis, not a temporary fix.
