Kansas Shows

On the subject of Kansas shows, what is everyones take on the majority of these spring shows going to either no fit or only the kids can fit? Maybe it's just me but I think it is ridiculous, I know that state fair and Wichita are both this way and I feel the same way about them. How are kids supposed to learn when they either can't fit or have someone who knows what they are doing helping them. I am a former Kansas 4-her that sells a few calves every year and always try and help our customers learn to due things the correct way and with these rues it is nearly impossible. I learned how to fit by doing it at smaller shows and with help from someone who was very good. I got good enough to put myself through college doing it and now with Kansas dumb rules kids won't have the same opportunity. I was just wondering if any other states were trying to put their young exhibitors at a disadvantage like the great state of Kansas was. Sorry about the rant but just saw the rules for 2 spring shows we are going to have cattle at and it got me a little fired up!

Living in this great state of ours let me throw my two cents out there.

On the kid only fit rule, I actually think it is a good thing. Now it doesn't keep them from having an expert clip them at home but the show day stuff is up to them. It will help them learn by necessity.

Then on the no fit, well actually its no something (adhesives or stuff that won't rub off, etc...) but you still need to work on them. So they learn how to present their cattle with different stuff.

What about the ones who can't afford a professional fitter or just don't have the talent? There are always those who for some reason are at a disadvantage. Besides putting all that stuff on costs too. And at most of the spring shows they go quickly because of the small numbers and unless you have your own pit crew it just can't be done by most.

Here again they need to learn how to present their cattle with the tools allowed. Just be thankful we don't have anyone push the slick sheer rule up here.

another socialist idea that makes the playing field more uneven.

We have fought this (and lost I might add) everywhere it has been brought up.  I am against no fit, I am also against the kid only,  but I do think it is more fair than "family only".  What they are doing it making it so that the kids in Kansas are at a huge disadvantage when they are competing outside of Kansas at Jr. Nationals, KC, Denver etc... because in 2-3 years no one in Kansas will know how to fit!
