Took a trip with some friends to the hill country this past weekend and somehow we ended up going to the Texas White house, home of President LBJ and got to walk around the place. I took a few pictures of his show barn and some of the stuff in it. The cattle are direct decedents to LBJ's cattle from the 60s. Kinda old school but i though it was pretty neat.

When I was 7 or 8 I used to drink water from our troughs because I heard LBJ said that if the water wasn't clean enough for him it wasn't clean enough for his cattle.  Somehow that equated to it's okay to drink water from the trough to me.

I've been thos place too and think its really neat.  LBJ used to show his hereford cattle.  My hoof trimmer told me that Shane Meier's (one of our bigger steer jocks down here) father actually runs the cattle operation on the LBJ ranch today (he told me that a year or two ago).  Can anyone confirm that?

This brings back memories.  I went there when I was a little guy which would have been early 70's.  I remember touring the barn and being really interested in ths how cattle.  I can remember both my Dad and I was amazed at the spray on insulation on the ceiling of the barn.  It was 20 degrees cooler under the insulated roof.  In the early 70's that was hih-tech stuff! I went their as a youngster as well....great memories...I remember they played LBJ's favorite song in the tour cart..."Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" and a horse that he had in the barn named "Ole Blue"...beautiiful country at that time...not as scorched as today!
