I know over time it will average out,  but I've never started a calving season like this. Out of the first 25 calves born 21 have been heifers. Going to have some nice heifers to pick from. Anyone else ever had a major unbalance of heifers and bulls?

Same here.  Last year we couldn't get a heifer - we had exactly 2 AI sired heifers out of around 40 head.  This year..  we have maybe 3 bulls in that same group.  Even the embryos we put in..  all heifers but one.    Our bull sired calves are doing a little better in the bull department but still strong on heifers.

We are half and half as of right now. We are done calving until April. All of these calves are out of the same sire. Some weird things for us, had 3 calves in a 2 hour span of each other. Everything has been coming late. We are glad most of them hit the ground runnin. This is a new bull and other than the calves weights being all over the place, they are very vigorous. They hit the ground and go. No help-in em along, so far.

Oh my, we're set to start calving about this weekend, hopefully we have the same luck that you guys are having! We had 3 heifers last year, and we've never been seriously heavy on heifers in my entire life...it would be a nice problem to have.

Justin - We are done with the heifer gods here so I'll send them your way.  I know I sure needed them last year.

Last 3 years over 70% heifers......  :'(    3 of my cows are 7 years old and have never had a bull calf.

Not if you breed for and raise steers. When we preg checked we have 18 bulls, 13 heifers, and 11 unknowns coming. We have only had one year when we had more heifers then bulls. Hope that happens next year though. Will be breeding more for purebreds.

Once again, same here. Out of about 20 calves, only 4 have been bulls. I had 8 straight heifers before I had my first bull.

Started out the first three cows had four heifer calves.  All are doing great, DJ Solution twins on a first calf heifer included.  Finally had a bull calf tuesday night.  Have one cow starting to calve right now.  She is a maternal sister to Kayla Nelson's GR Ch % Simmi heifer in the junior show at Louisville.  She is bred to GCF Amigo.  Should be fun!  Two more cows that are a couple days over due and then I am caught up until the end of February.

Last year we had a run on heifers too.  They're nice to have but our bull sales support the herd!  At the rate our bulls are leaving I may have to actually go out & buy one...  Hope our girls pump out a bigger ratio of bull calves this year!

Added another heifer tonight so thats 7 cows with 7 heifers and one bull.  This one is out of our Angus clean up bull by MCC Lookout out of  Cane Ridge Juanada 3071N by  OCC homer X OCC Emblazon from Lee's Cattle Co in Brush Colorado.  If all his calves look like this one does still wet, I may save a little $$ on Estumate and CIDRS.  EXTRA cool and stout and fuzzy!
