I am looking into purchasing a drone to check fences, check cattle, scare the poo out of trespassers, etc.....
Does anyone on here have experience with them?  (Ok, and to have fun with!!)
I have found a few in the $350-500 range that have a real time camera that you can hook up to the computer or a monitor.  It is basically a 4 base helicopter.  I do know that single wing drones take a lot of space to take flight and to land and they do not have real time capabilities.

Ideas? Experience?

Thanks

I am a crop consultant and these are becoming more and more popular on the crop side of farming as you probably know. I have sat through a lot of demonstrations and sales pitches on them and this is what I have learned: 1. You get what you pay for. This could be the batteries, camera, etc. but for that price I have a hard time believing you will have a quality product when you can get some up to 25k. 2. The type of drone you are describing has terrible battery life and depending on how big your pastures are and how long it would take you to fly them. And 3. A lot say they have a real time camera on them but in reality you fly it then you plug it in and watch a video of it so if you have the time to fly it for 40 minutes and then sit down and watch a 40 minute video it would be justifiable.

I guess with my experience with them there are a ton of variables and its all going to come down to how much you use it and how much you can justify to spend on one to get done what you want it to do.

My son-in-law works for Verizon, and they actually offer a couple different drone models.

I don't know the exact particulars on them, but I do know that you control them with your cell phone.  The camera feedback is in real time.  You just watch your phone and you can see what the drone camera sees.

If I remember correctly, the range is limited only by the cell phone coverage...which could be challenging depending upon where you are located.

It might be worth looking at, but I am by no means an expert.

I just think they are cool!
