My son recently became certified to AI, and we are looking for a used semen tank.  I'm not really familiar with  brands, etc, but if anyone has one they want to sell, or knows where we could look for one, please reply or PM.
We're located in NW Ohio.  Thanks  (thumbsup)

IF your in northwest ohio you'll need someone to service your tank. If you buy a new one from Genex they will provide service. the few extra bucks you'll save on a used  tank is nothing compared too good service. You can PM me and I'll give you our reps name. I'm from NW Ohio also.

I have purchased several tanks on eBay and have got some excellent tanks at excellent prices. I probably bid on 15 tanks before I get one bought at a very good price, and I have also purchased 5 dry shippers on eBay . The dry shippers have cost between $1 and $310 and all are working fine. The one I purchased for $1 would not hold nitrogen so I had the seller send it directly to MVE to see if it could be fixed. It cost me $200 and they gave me a new warranty on it. So, I got a dry shipper that lists for $1050 here, for $230 , including the shipping here.

In your case, I would suggest that if you are going to be handling other people's semen, I would not mess around with a used tank. Bite the bullet and buy a new one. There are several good brands of tanks and most studs have them. Talk to the people at the studs and they can probably tell you which ones they like the best. They work in this business every day and they should be able to give you good advice.

I bought one yesterday at a farm auction, it has between 300 and 400 straws of semen in it.  I was unable to attend the auction so sent a bid with a friend so I have no idea what the semen is.  I guess I will find out tomorrow, hopefully there is an inventory list!!!

Thanks for your replies.  As luck would have it, we had a semen salesman stop by yesterday and we purchased a used one from him.  Now we just need to fill it!  Thanks again  (clapping)

Guys, all of my local semen reps say that they trust the good, old tanks much more than that new ones.  Theory is that if an old tank has been around 10 years, any problems that it will have....have already occurred!
