Monopoly v. Eye Candy -- Calving Ease
« on: February 10, 2012, 07:20:34 PM »
Kind of looking at Eye Candy and Monopoly for a couple of larger cows (1600 lbs.).  I think either one would have a decent chance of clicking with them.  How do they compare for calving ease?

is that a concern- on a cow big enough for an elephant to slide out?  10% of her Body weight- is 160...  even by pooring the corn and Heatwave to her-- you'll unlikely not get one that big

Not a huge concern, but if there is a definite difference between them, it plays into the decision.

We've calved out both with a high percentage calving unassisted, both have thrown a pair of 100lb calves, but most of them are 70-80 lbs.

i would picture eye candy to be easier calving just because he is not a direct heat wave son... just a thought but i wouldn't take my word for it... good luck
personally i would use eye candy rather than monopoly because he adds more hair and a squarer hip... good luck  (thumbsup)

Had a monopoly calf last week out of our big hereford cow she weighed 1678 before we bred her the calf weighed 103 it was a heifer. She had it with ease is we werent checking our camera we would have missed it. Shes got great bone and hip and a fancy fronted little girl. Never had an eye candy but the monopoly impressed me so much out of the pb hereford. That big of a cow should be able to have a 100 pound calf easy.

We have never bred to Monopoly but have used eye candy the past two years and have never touched one of them. They are not small but in the 80-100 lb range out of 1300-1400 lb angus cross cows.

I think that these 2 bulls are a washout as far as which one will calve easier. For me it gets down to whether you are wanting steers or heifers out  of your cow. Heifers = Eye Candy/steers = Monopoly. It would also make a difference as to whether you want a little more angus in the calf or Galloway.

i think eye candy puts enough hip and hair on them to be steers and i also think monopoly makes some of them cowy enough to make heifers it could really go ether way

T first I agreed with BS on this.  We have a herd of larger shorthorn cows, and don't blink an eye at 100# calves.  BUT - what if you happened to get a herdsire type?  Then BW might end up being the swaying factor as to keeping or cutting.

Eye Candy's bw was 90 monopoly's bw was 96.
If u need more hair eye candy would be my choice but monopoly is known to sire some real great muscled ones that r pretty darn hairy too.
