Im pretty sure my steer needs to put on some muscling. Does anyone have any advice either feeding or supplements? Right now Im feeding 24lbs a day of Honor Finishing Touch. Has anyone tried any of the Purina Honor Supplements? I was thinking Champion Drive..has it worked for any of yall?

Show bloom is a good supplement that is also about the cheapest there is (I think about 30 cents per day) and will make a difference.  You could also add Showflexx for the last 30 days of feeding and that will help as well.  Exercise is always a must as well

Thanks, and other than walking daily, there isnt any other exercising he can do..right?? Lol my mom(inexperienced with animals) goes why dont you just do that circle thing in the round pen that you do with horses or make him go over hurdles like you do to build up your lambs to make them built (lol) (clapping) My mom cracks me up

my mom rodeoed and showed horses as a kid and told my older sisters the same thing and believe it or not a hot walker can be a great tool if you do it right.

For exercise just make sure he has a pen that is large enough for him to walk around, walk hiim for 30minutes to an hour if building muscle is your goal, and try the supplements.  What is his weight now?  When is his final show and what is your weight target?

if you add showbloom I would say you are feeding a pretty good ration, should be plenty of fat in it to put finish on him as well.  Just remember to keep feeding him hay to keep his flank low

Get him on 1-2 pounds per day of a Stabilized Rice Bran.  Both Triple Crown and Moorman's/ADM have quality products (made for horses) that will add fat and increase muscle.  They will also greatly improve the hair.

Brittany as far as exercise is concerned, you can get twice as much done twice as fast by chasing/walking behind him than you can get done by trying to lead him. 2 totally different deals there.

I dont have an implant gun nor do I feel comfortable to implant. It wouldnt really pay for my to buy the gun and implants since he is my only steer and I wont be showin anymore after this year and I doubt the implants will still be good in 8 years when my daughters start showing, but thanks for the advice. (thumbsup)

When you get closer to your show, a few weeks out, start using OptiFlex. We have used it occasionally and it worked wonders. Talk to a nutritionist or research it so you don't overuse it because that could be bad.
